A ranking of the world’s best cocktail bars, inspired by 50 Best. This “academy”, developed by the William Reid company, has ranked the world’s 50 best establishments in several rankings since 2002, establishing itself as the fiercest competitor of the Michelin Guide. If France is absent from the top steps of the catwalk for this vintage dedicated to the art of the cocktail, three Parisian addresses manage to appear on the list.
French addresses
To discover the first hallowed French cocktail bar, you have to go down to the 19th position in the ranking. The irony of fate? That’s the bar british of the capital. Called The Cambridge Public House and located in Murray, this establishment “combines the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of a pub with the service and experience of a cocktail bar”, claiming to be a “Cocktail Pub”, according to its website. Opened in 2019, it offers an ever-evolving menu that adapts to the seasons and is crafted with a sustainable approach. The pub, which was ranked 38th in 2023, continues its rise with cocktails like the Golden Child, with carrot; cake in a glass,” mixing Philadelphia cheese, Merlet brother blend brandy and single malt whiskey.
At number 39 is Bar Nouveau, referring to its Art Deco decor, which mixes wooded arabesques, stitched mirrors and floral motifs. Located in the heart of the Marais, we owe this address to the great name in cocktails, Remy Savage, who was named the best mixologist in the world in 2022. “The drinks are elegant and deceptively simple. Don’t miss their version of the Ramos, made with vanilla yogurt, peat and St-Germain liqueur, served with an oyster shell-shaped spoon,” explains: 50 Best on his website.
Finally, the Parisian bar “Danico” occupies the 49th place in the rating. Behind the Daroco Bourse restaurant in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, this ‘Brooklyn-style’ address was conceived by Nico Soto, the globe-trotting bartender behind New York’s wildly popular Mace. At the top of the podium was Handshake Speakeasy in Mexico City, followed by Bar Leon in Hong Kong and Sips in Barcelona.
