This Monday, the 21st, ILLIT held a press conference to promote the launch of the second mini-album in the group’s discography, “I’LL LIKE YOU”, which is now available on the main music streaming platforms, and was accompanied by from a MV for the title track “Cherish (My Love)”, which can be seen below:
In the chat with journalists about the new project, the members Yunah, Minju, Moka, Wonhee and Iroha were able to give details about the comeback, as well as comment on the controversies surrounding HYBE, as well as reflect on the hit “Magnetic” and more!
Check out what was said:
Conflicts between subsidiaries?
One of the questions was related to conflicts between the HYBE conglomerate (which has the company that manages ILLIT’s career, BeLift Lab, as a subsidiary), NewJeans and Min Hee Jinformer CEO of ADOR, a record company subsidized by the company. This is because, amid the legal proceedings,Min Hee Jin accused BeLift Lab of having plagiarized the concept of the group formed by Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein to create ILLIT.
With the question, Yunah was led to state that, amidst the controversies, the members’ focus was just one: maintaining concentration for the release of the second mini-album, thinking mainly about the fans to deliver good work.
We think about the fans who supported us. We want to protect the love of our fans, so we want to focus on showing our colors even more.”
The big hit
Another topic was the hit “Magnetic”, the lead single that marked ILLIT’s debut, released alongside the mini-album ‘SUPER REAL ME’, on March 25th of this year, an album that features three more tracks: ‘My World’, ‘Midnight Fiction’ and ‘Lucky Girl Syndrome’. Listen!
Regarding the success of the song, Iroha shared that not only the group is happy with the repercussion of the track, but also the people close to it: “My friends usually send me photos when they see photos of us or hear our music on the streets”, he stated.
The comeback
The track chosen to lead the promotional activities for the new album was “Cherish (My Love)”, a choice which Yunah revealed that she was apprehensive at first, as she considers that the energy of the music is not the same as the first songs released by the group, even though today she believes it fits with the formation.
I was a little nervous because it was a different vibe from our previous songs, but I felt like it was ILLIT’s song after practicing with the members,” she said.
Possible challenge with FIFTY FIFTY?
K-pop challenges have become very popular, as they enable more public engagement and, consequently, cause the song to be played more and gain different opportunities to win important milestones and prizes.
Like this, Moka revealed that he wants to record a challenge video with FIFTY FIFTY, a group formed and managed by Attrakt, as he knows some of the members personally. Currently, FIFTY FIFTY has Keena, Chanelle Moon, Yewon, Hana and Athena as members.
Expectations for the comeback
Regarding expectations for the new release, the answer was unanimous: to stand out in awards, as Yunah said that one of the titles she wants to win is “idols representing the 5th generation”.
“As our first-place pledge, we were thinking of doing the encore wearing cherry headbands, since ‘cherish’ sounds like ‘cherry,'” he said. Minju. “My little goal [para esse retorno] is to win first place because I think I would be very happy if I received a trophy from Minju”, he added. Wonhee.
It is worth remembering that the album “I’LL LIKE YOU” also has five songs in total. They are: “Cherish (My Love)”, “I’ll Like You”, “IYKYK (If You Know You Know)”, “Pimple” and “Tick-Tack”. Listen on Spotify:
