At Least 6 Killed, More Injured In Sacramento Shooting: Police –

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – California police are searching for at least one suspect in the mass shooting in downtown Sacramento Sunday morning that killed six people and injured 10 others.

Sacramento Police Chief Katie Lester told a news conference that police were patrolling the area around 2am when they heard gunshots. Arriving at the scene, many people gathered on the street and met the six people who had been killed. Another 10 were taken alone or taken to hospital. No information was released about their condition.

Authorities do not know if one or more suspects are involved and are seeking public assistance to determine who is responsible. Lester did not specify the type of weapon used.

It was “a very difficult and challenging scene,” he said. Lester addressed the audience and asked witnesses or anyone with a history of the incidents to contact police.

Shortly after the shooting, a video was posted on Twitter showing people running down the street to the sound of quick gunshots. The video shows several ambulances in the area.

Residents were asked to avoid the area, which is full of restaurants and bars leading to the Golden One Center, where the Sacramento Kings play basketball.

Berry Atzius, a community activist, said he arrived at the scene after the shooting.

“The first thing I saw was like a victim. I saw a girl with blood on her body, the girl took the glass, the girl shouted: “They killed my sister”. The mother said, “Where is my son? Was my son hit? ”He said.

Kay Harris, 32, said she was asleep when one of her family members called and said they thought her brother had been killed. He thought he was in London, at a nightclub at 1009 10th Street.

Harris said he had been to the club several times and described it as a place for “young people”.

Police lined the streets around the club, with a yellow ribbon flapping in the morning breeze. He spent the morning walking around the block, waiting for news.

“It’s a very senseless act of violence,” he said.
