5 interesting facts about RBD

In celebration of World RBD Day, discover or remember 5 curious facts about the Mexican band that fans need to know

This Friday, the 4th, World RBD Day is celebrated, a date that commemorates the achievements accumulated together by Anahi, Sweet Maria, Alfonso “Poncho” Herrera, Christopher von Uckermann, Maite Perroni and Christian Chavezwho form the sextet that appeared in fiction, but became real.

It turns out that RBD was formed during the soap opera “Rebelde”, produced by Televisa, which premiered on the same date, in 2004, featuring the six actors as the characters Mía Colucci, Roberta Pardo, Miguel Arango, Diego Bustamante, Lupita Fernández and Giovanni Méndez, respectively, who soon became so popular that it didn’t take long for them to transform the fictional band, initially planned only for TV, in a project that went beyond the reach of the small screen, releasing albums, participating in programs and performing shows in several countries on tour.

Over the years that they remained together, several curious pieces of information were discovered and others became part of the band’s history. Therefore, in celebration of World RBD Day, RECREIO gathered 5 interesting facts about RBD that you need to know:

1. They are old acquaintances!

When watching the soap opera or seeing the band’s performances, something that catches your attention is the great connection they appear to have, and this may be linked to the fact that some of them already knew each other before “Rebelde”! It turns out Sweet Maria, Anahi, Christian Chavez and AlfonsoHerrera They were part of the cast of the Mexican series “Clase 406” (2002 — 2003).

Furthermore, in the year that “Rebelde” was first aired, some members of the band were dating, as they Alfonso Herrera and Sweet Maria they were together from 2002 until 2005, while Anahi and Christopher von Uckermann they were briefly linked in 2004.

2. Dulce María is related to Frida Kahlo

The artistic vein of Sweet Maria has an unexpected inheritance! It turns out that the actress and singer is the great-niece of the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (1907 — 1954), and although the two never met, Sweet has even been inspired by Frida for the concept of the songs and the visuals of the album ‘Origen’ (2021).

3. RBD has albums in other languages

RBD’s success went beyond the borders of Mexico, and for this reason, some of the band’s albums were released in other languages. In the case of Portuguese, it is possible to hear the sextet’s voices in “Rebelde – Edition Brasil”, which is the version of the group’s first album released in 2004, and “ Nosso Amor Rebelde”, which appeared in 2006.

In the meantime, the album ‘Rebels’ also appeared, premiering on December 19, 2006, containing 13 tracks sung in English.

4. Alfonso Herrera was not on the “Soy Rebelde Tour”

In 2023, RBD reunited again on the “Soy Rebelde Tour”, the first held in 15 years, that is, since the announcement of the band’s end in 2008. However, the shows were not attended by Alfonso Herrerawho told the newspaper El País that at the moment he has other priorities.

“I’m very happy with the projects I have at the moment, which is where I’m putting my energy. I know this project [os novos shows do RBD] It will be a resounding success and I only have good wishes for them”, commented Miguel’s interpreter.

5. Records

Throughout his career, RBD achieved several records, including the largest number of tracks by a Mexican in the Top 200 on Spotify, the most listened to playlist on Spotify in just 24 hours of creation and the biggest international tour in Brazil.

The last feat was achieved with 13 shows in the main Brazilian cities through the “Soy Rebelde Tour”, although the brand is about to be surpassed by Bruno Marswhich has 14 shows scheduled in the country.
