Remember 5 songs sung by villains in productions released on TV and in cinemas
From “Friends on the Other Side”, sung by Dr. Facilier in “The Princess and the Frog”, to “Poor Unfortunate Hearts”, which features the voice of Ursula in “The Little Mermaid”, it is clear that Disney knows how to create songs iconic to the villains in their stories.
Still, it’s not just the studio created by Walt Disney which has this feat, as it is possible to find incredible musical moments for the antagonists of several other titles released by different producers that help clarify the motivations behind the evil actions of these figures who are capable of anything to get what they want.
With that in mind, RECREIO put together a list of the 5 best non-Disney villain songs; check it out!
1. “Holding Out for a Hero” — Shrek 2 (2004)
The first place on the list could not be any other than “Holding Out for a Hero”, performed by Fada Madrinha, who was originally voiced by Jennifer Saunders in “Shrek 2”, produced by DreamWoks. The track is a cover of the song of the same name sung by Bonnie Tyler in 1984 for another feature film: “Footloose”.
2. “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” — How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)
In the 1966 animation “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, released as a TV special by MGM Television, the iconic “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” appeared, a track that was performed by Thurl Ravenscroft. Over the years, the song gained new versions, the most recent being released for “O Grinch” (2018), which received the voice of Tyler the Creator.
3. Am I Bad — Lorax (2012)
Am I Bad? I only do what’s good for me! One of the most bubblegum of all time, the track featured in “The Lorax: In Search of the Lost Trúfula”, by Illumination, reflects on the Once-ler’s attitudes, after all, does everything he does make him someone bad?
4. “We’re the Best” — Lazy Town
“We Are Number One” or “We Are the Best” appears in the 12th episode of the fourth season of LazyTown titled “Robbie and His Dream Team”. The song has a characteristic touch that ended up marking the villain’s trajectory, making it impossible not to remember Robbie’s striped clothes, strange manner and various faces. The production was shown on the Nickelodeon channel and was produced by LazyTown Entertainment.
5.”In the Dark of Night” — Anastasia (1997)
Today, ‘Anastasia’ is a film belonging to the Disney catalog after the company purchased 21st Century Fox. Still, it was through the film’s original producer, which released in 1997, the title introduced Rasputin, the sorcerer who reveals his evil plan from eliminating members of the Romanov family to becoming the most powerful in Russia in the track “In the Dark of Night”.
