What are BTS’ Jin’s nicknames?

Discover some of the nicknames created by fans for Jin, member of BTS, throughout his 11-year career as an idol

Throughout our lives, we may receive different nicknames from our friends, family and loved ones, with many remaining in our lives for a long time, while others are only used fleetingly.

In a recent interview with Harper’s BAZAAR Korea, Jinmember of BTS, revealed some nicknames he has had in his life. During the conversation, the star revealed that in elementary school I, his friends used to create nicknames for him based on his real name, Kim Seokjinand therefore it was known as Kimbap or Kimchi, traditional dishes of South Korean cuisine.

Meanwhile, by the time he reached middle school, his classmates had stopped referring to him by the names of foods and instead began calling him “middle school kid” because of his youthful features, a nickname that stuck throughout his high school and college years.

In addition to these, Jinhas also received countless affectionate nicknames created by ARMYs, BTS fans, involving some of the idol’s striking characteristics. Check out some of them!

1. Worldwide Handsome

Probably one of his best-known nicknames, “Worldwide Handsome” means in Portuguese something like “beautiful all over the world”, highlighting his beauty. Jinobviously, also loves this nickname, and always uses it on different occasions, presenting himself with it in numerous interviews to introduce himself, where he says: “Hi, my name is Jin and I’m Worldwide Handsome.”

2. Matnae

In K-pop, the expression “matnae (맏내)” refers to the oldest member of the group who, often, can end up looking like the youngest due to their more youthful appearance or personality. The word is a combination of the prefix mat- (맏), which in Korean means older, and the term maknae (막내), which means youngest.

3. Quokka / Hamster

In South Korea, it is extremely common to compare other people’s faces to animals. This practice is called “dongmulsang,” and it can take into account both a person’s features and personality. According to fans, Jin would look a lot like adorable quokkas and hamsters, making that one of their nicknames.

4. The third guy from the left

This nickname was actually not created by ARMYs, but by other people who ended up being impressed by the beauty of Jin at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs), and references the position the idol was in in the photos. That same day, non-ARMYs also came up with other ways to refer to the star, since they didn’t know his name, including “the guy in the plain black suit” and “the guy with the pink microphone.”

5. Eat Jin

Every ARMY knows when Jin He loves to eat, and some time ago, he also used to have a YouTube series called “Eat Jin”, proving that he is a big eater. Because of this, many fans started calling him “Eat Jin”.

6. Mr. Shoulders / Dorito

In Korean, some fans often call Jin from “어깨깡패”, or “Mr. Shoulders”, due to the width of his shoulders. Meanwhile, international ARMYs ended up adapting the same nickname to “Dorito”.
