Check out some K-pop stars who have already revealed that they don’t really like some of the tracks in their own repertoires
When we are fans, it is extremely common to have some songs by our favorite singer that we don’t like as much as the others — and this can even happen with the artists themselves, who also have their selection of favorite tracks in their repertoire.
In the K-pop industry, for example, countless idols have already revealed in different interviews that they are not so fond of some of their songs, whether they are b-sides, or even title tracks that ended up becoming big hits.
With that in mind, RECREIO has selected 5 K-pop idols who have already revealed that they don’t like some of their own songs. Check it out!
1. Taeyeon (Girls’ Generation)
Probably one of the most famous cases of artists not liking some of their songs is that of Taeyeonleader of Girls’ Generation. This is because, in different interviews, the artist has already revealed that there are some songs in the group’s repertoire that she didn’t like at first, but that eventually ended up becoming a big hit.
In appearances on radio and television programs (via Koreaboo), Taeyeon commented that she hated “Gee” the moment she first heard it, and that she immediately opposed it. In addition, other songs that the idol also said she didn’t like very much, but that ended up doing very well, are “Hoot” and “Lion Heart”.
2. Key (SHINee)
With 16 years of career, Keyfrom SHINee, has also stated on different programs that there are two songs from his group that he simply doesn’t like — something that has even become a joke among fans. The first is one of the boy group’s biggest hits, “Ring Ding Dong”, which, according to him, doesn’t match his musical taste, besides always getting stuck in his head.
Now the other track in which Key really dislikes is “Hello”. In 2018, during his program “Cheongdam KEYchen”, he said to Taeyeonfrom Girls’ Generation, that the song clashes with her personality, and that she didn’t like promoting it.
3. Yeri and Irene (Red Velvet)
“Rookie”, the title track of Red Velvet’s fourth mini-album, was chosen as the least favorite song by two members: the leader Irene and the maknae Yeri. For the oldest, the track is one of the ones she likes the least, as she considers it too childish, and her preference is for more mature concepts.
Meanwhile, the youngest claims that she ended up not liking the song because it is very difficult for her to control her breathing while singing and dancing at the same time. Due to its difficulty, and because it almost made her vomit during a rehearsal, the song ended up falling into her favorite category.
4. Suzy (miss A)
In 2017, when she was one of the guests on the SBS program “JYP’s Party People”, hosted by Park Jinyoung, the JY Parkfounder of JYP Entertainment, the company responsible for forming Miss A, Suzyrevealed that he didn’t really like the 2013 song “I Don’t Need a Man”.
According to the artist, the only reason she didn’t really like the track at the time was because, when the song was released, the band didn’t have many male fans, with their fandom being predominantly female. As a result, she felt that the song would be “pushing away” potential male fans, since the literal translation of the title is “I don’t need a man”.
5. Nayeon (TWICE)
The case of Nayeon has also become a big joke among fans. This is because, in numerous interviews, the oldest member of TWICE has stated that she does not like the song “I’m Gonna Be a Star”, which was part of the survival program “Sixteen”, responsible for forming the group.
According to the artist, the track bothers her because, in much of its lyrics, the phrase “I’m Gonna Be a Star” is repeated. For this reason, in the group’s shows, whenever the song is selected to be performed in the “Encore” segment, the not-so-happy reactions of Nayeon always end up causing a lot of laughter among the ONCEs.
