Find out when and how SHINee’s Taemin fell victim to a fan whose obsession led him to break into the artist’s house
Everyone knows that when someone enters property without legal permission it is a crime, but what few can imagine is that Taeminfrom SHINee, was recently the victim of an intruder, as the artist received an unexpected visit at his own home in 2023.
The revelation was made by the idol in a chat on the talk show “Hyeel’s Club”, hosted by Hyeriby Girls’ Day, and published on August 23 on the singer and actress’ YouTube channel. At the time, he was asked if he had ever had any history with thieves, making him remember the scary moment when the house where he lives was broken into.
It’s been a year. It’s not a burglar because nothing has gone missing. In fact, I found something. They threw garbage in my house. After that, I installed CCTVs. [um sistema de monitoramento e vigilância] in my house and outside. I was kind of scared after that, because they might be hiding in my house. When you watch horror movies, they always hide under your bed, right? Time has passed, but it was really scary back then,” Taemin recalled.

As revealed by the Koreaboo portal, it is likely that whoever entered the house Teamin was a saesang, a term used to define obsessive fans who go beyond any privacy limits in order to feel closer to the idols they idolize.
With actions capable of putting even the lives of artists in danger, the practice culminated in the creation of the Anti-Stalking Law in South Korea, which criminalizes the act of stalking celebrities, as well as actions that put artists in embarrassing situations, such as sending unwanted messages, videos and photos. The practice leads to the payment of fines and in some cases, even imprisonment.
Even though the report of Taeminis somewhat surprising, it is not uncommon to find reports of other artists from South Korea who have also had to deal with saesang situations as terrifying as the SHINee member’s, such as when Jackson Wangfrom GOT7 suffered a car accident while being chased by fans in 2016, or when EXO, at the beginning of their career, suffered an attempted kidnapping by an obsessive fan.
