A renowned war correspondent and filmmaker who documented the siege of Mariupol by Russian troops has received the IBC’s highest award.
Ukrainian war correspondent and director Mstislav Chernov will be awarded the highest award from the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) for his documentary film 20 days in Mariupol. IBC reported this.
IBC is an annual trade show dedicated to the speech, electronic media and entertainment industry. Chernov, who, together with photographer Evgeniy Maloletka and producer Vasilis Stepanenko, documented the siege of the city. These shots became the basis for the film 20 days in Mariupol, which received an award Oscar in the Best Feature Documentary category.
This year, IBC recognized Chernov as the best in the industry, awarding him the International Honor for Excellence (IHFE). IBC Director Mike Crimp said: “In awarding Mstislav Chernov this year’s IHFE Award for his work as a war correspondent, video journalist and director, we recognize the courage, creativity, skill and determination he has shown in capturing some of the the most amazing stories we’ve seen over the years it’s so important to create videos that expose the reality of conflicts around the world and challenge the spread of fake news and disinformation, Mstislav and the team he’s with are an example of goodness and the best in our field,” he emphasized IBC Director Mike Crimp.
The award ceremony will take place on September 15 in Amsterdam.
