“Intolerable emptiness”. A touching letter from King Charles, written four months after Diana’s death, has been sold at auction.

A letter written by King Charles III, dated December 8, 1997, has sold at auction for £1,500.

“I can well imagine the unbearable emptiness you must be feeling right now.” In a three-page handwritten letter written on December 8, 1997, King Charles III evokes the grief he feels three months after the death of his ex-wife, Princess Diana. The message was auctioned by Boston-based RR Auction. The spokesperson of RR clarified. “This long handwritten letter to Peter expresses his condolences on the death of a loved one,” apparently referring to Lady Dee, who died in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997.

The then Prince of Wales wrote that his heart was “bleeding” after the death of “our dearest Lizzie”, the wife of his friend Peter Hutton. The son of Elizabeth II expressed great sympathy, adding that he can imagine the “suffering” Houghton is going through and “it’s like he’s waving a magic wand to change the situation”.

“There is another dimension beyond the physical dimension”

The letter also expands on the prince’s faith and beliefs about what happens when someone dies, quoting a passage from the Bible that says: but then we will see face to face.” “I personally believe that there is another dimension beyond the physical, and that we will be surprised to discover it for ourselves when we are finally or at some point called to make this particular journey for ourselves.”

The letter, written on Highgrove House letterhead, is signed ‘Charles’ and its original envelope is included in the sale. The future monarch’s instructions on the envelope state that the letter should be delivered “by hand”. Agreed Daily Express the seller of the letter remains unknown at this time.
