Find out who the BT21 characters are and who, among RM, V, Jimin, Jin, Jungkook, Suga and J-Hope, was responsible for creating each of them
The seven mascots created by RM, V, Jimin, Jin, Jungkook, Sucks and J-Hopefrom BTS, to BT21 have become freebies at McDonald’s! The characters became part of the McDonald’s menu last Tuesday, the 6th, and can be purchased separately, from RS30, or in combos from the fast food chain.
What are the characters?
Created in 2017 for the Line Friends Creators project of the Line messaging app, the BT21 characters were supposed to be part of the Line Friends line, but soon became their own brand, gaining stickers on the app, collectible products and media content.
These figures had their personalities and looks designed by the members of BTS, who had the help of designers from Line to bring MANG, KOYA, COOKY, SHOOKY, RJ, CHIMMY and TATA to life.
TATA
Created by VTATA is an alien who has supernatural powers. With a heart-shaped face and a blue body covered in yellow dots, he is hyperplastic and can stretch to great lengths.
Also known as the crown prince on Planet BT, TATA was already part of the cartoons of V well before the partnership that started Line Friends Creators, and was created to be a unique character.
RJ
The kind and gluttonous alpaca drawn by Jinas well as the creation of Vis a figure that the idol used to draw. According to the star, the members say that he looks like the animal, especially when he eats, and so it could be the most faithful representation of Seokjin in animated format.
Described as a figure who makes “everyone feel at home”, as stated on the project’s website, RJ also really enjoys cooking!
CHIMMY
With the phrase “The pure in heart” as the one that best represents him, CHIMMY took shape through the ideas of Jimin. The little dog in the yellow sweatshirt is always willing to work hard for what he believes in, and as revealed by the singer during the making of the characters’ creation, he is “the animal that best matches BTS”.
More than that, Jimin also revealed that there is a physical aspect of CHIMMY that resembles him: the chubby cheeks that, in his words, remind him of the face he had when he debuted as a member of the group in 2013, with the song ‘No More Dream’.
COOKY
The pink rabbit designed by Jungkook He looks cute, but when he gets angry, he imagines turning into a muscular man. COOKY was given a version with six-pack abs in the initial sketches, causing the BTS members to highlight how much he resembled his creator, since the maknae is always spotted at the gym to keep in shape.
MANG
MANG was created by J-Hope. Hidden behind a pony mask that had a heart-shaped snout because the idol’s lips form a heart when he laughs, MANG is actually a squirrel, as revealed in the “Inside Mang” series. Relive it above!
SHOOKY
The playful cookie that was born from sketches of Sucksloves to play pranks! SHOOKY came about through a combination of ideas, as the idol had planned for it to look like his pet dog, Holly, but because it looked like other characters, he ended up keeping only the expressions created by Sucksgaining a design inspired by a cookie designed by Jungkook in one of COOKY’s drafts.
KOYA
The talented and sleepy koala was developed by RM. The BTS leader chose this animal because he thought it was cute, and the purple detail on the nose references the phrase created by V“I Purple You”, a combination of the words “I love you” and “purple”, which represents the love shared between the group and the fandom.
VAN
VAN was created by Line designers to represent BTS fans, known as ARMYs. The gray and black robot has great wisdom and is a protector of BT21.
