The country started the competition in 2007, a year after the declaration of independence. Since then, the country has refused to participate in the competition three times.
Montenegro will return to Eurovision in 2025 after a two-year hiatus. Broadcaster RTCG publishes the rules of the competition Montesong 2024, which will be the new national selection for Eurovision. Eurovoix reported it.
Songs for participation must be submitted before October 1, 2024, and must be in more than half of one of the languages spoken in Montenegro (Montenegrin, Serbian, Bosnian, Croatian). All artists must have Montenegrin citizenship.
A special committee will select up to 16 songs to be scored on a system of 50 points for composition, 30 points for lyrics and 20 points for production, with a maximum possible score of 100 points. To qualify for the finals, a song must score at least 75 points.
In the absence of such songs, the broadcaster has the right to freely choose the country’s representative for Eurovision 2025, which will take place in Switzerland in May next year.
