Even with an already consolidated career, this does not mean that the members of GOT7 do not face challenges and difficulties; find out more!
It is a fact that GOT7 is one of the biggest and most talented boy groups of the third generation of K-pop. However, even with a consolidated career, this does not mean that the members do not face challenges and difficulties.
In an interview with GQ Australia in 2022, Jinyoung revealed that while GOT7 was preparing for their final comeback that year, he went through a major personal change internally regarding his personality around the other members:
You guys have seen me these past few days, I’m very light-hearted and playful with my members… that’s what’s changed. Before, when we went overseas or had schedules, I was the quiet and stern one. I just felt like I had to be that person. I was being too serious. The members got a little uncomfortable around me (when I was like that) and I felt like even though I was trying my best, I wasn’t being honest.”
According to the journalist Taylor Grasbywho conducted the interview for GQ Australia, Jinyoung even considered leaving the entertainment industry. But, “he kept going because he knew that a lot of people believed in him, like his fans, his family and his members.”
Since 2022, Jinyoung has felt happier and more comfortable with the situation, stating that the change for his internal problems to improve needed to come from him, and not from other people around him:
In 2021, I felt very uncomfortable with my personality. It wasn’t anyone’s fault, it was about me and the way I saw the world. I always blamed others (why did they do this or that?) and thought that I wasn’t the problem, they were. But looking at myself in an impartial way, I thought: ‘I’m not perfect, I have my own flaws’. And when I realized that, I knew I needed to change. This team promotion (in 2022) is a very happy time for me because now I know how to act with the members. I feel more comfortable.”
