In front of more than a billion viewers, French singer Juliette Armand had the difficult task of covering John Lennon’s “Imagine”, one of the world’s most famous songs, this Friday, July 26. Paris Olympic Games.
Far from his usual register
At midnight, Juliet Armanet was placed on a boat on the Seine and accompanied by pianist Sofia Paart, who played a fiery piano. Illustrated by the House of Dior in collaboration with embroiderer Clara Daguin. The singer’s outfit, which consisted of a shirt and black patent canvas pants, was enhanced with multiple layered top pearls that were lit up by a programming system.
The French artist was far from her usual register. With the title “L’amour en solitaire” on her first album “Petite Amie” (2017), the singer initially seemed to follow in the footsteps of Véronique Sanson. But four years later, with the album Brûler le feu, Juliet Armanet had a hit with the song “The last day of disco” and her disco ball was ignited by the title and musically accepted.
Lille-born Juliette Armanet, 40, was therefore supported for this performance by another northerner, Sophian Palmer, 34, originally from Helem, not far from Lille. “I have the opportunity to flourish on the piano. But I never forget that my family’s destiny in France began underground (…) thanks to my Berber grandfather, who came from Morocco to work in the mines of the north,” he recalled to AFP in 2022. But he also grew up with his “friends, the street” and his uncle, “with all the attitude of the street culture, the incredible tablecloths,” who introduced him to hip-hop. “All these greats, I wanted to be like them (…) That’s how my love affair with rap developed.” After leaving the conservatory, he got close to rappers SCH, Maes, Vald, Scylla, JoeyStarr. Then goes it alone and fills big places on its own behalf.
