Check out the best orders to carry out your marathon of the ‘Shrek’ franchise before the arrival of the new film announced by DreamWorks
Last Tuesday, the 9th, DreamWorks announced the release of “Shrek 5”, a new film in the franchise that satirizes fairy tales and presents the story of the grumpy ogre who ends up changing after the arrival of Donkey, his new friend, and Princess Fiona, which is expected to hit theaters worldwide on July 1, 2026.
The new film will be directed by Walt Dohrnwriter and artist for Shrek 2 and 3 and head of story for ‘Shrek Forever After’, as well as voice actor for the character Rumpelstiltskin, and will feature the return of the actors Eddie Murphy as the voice actor for Donkey, Mike Myers like Shrek and Cameron Diaz giving voice to Fiona.
With its first feature film released in 2001, the “Shrek” franchise can be considered the most popular ever made by DreamWorks, including being responsible for receiving the first Oscar in the category of Best Animated Feature, in the 2002 edition.
Over the years, the success of the plot became increasingly greater, generating several sequels and spin-offs — giving prominence even to other characters, such as Puss in Boots, and Donkey, who should get a solo film soon, as confirmed by Eddie Murphy in an interview with Collider.
As such, many fans may end up confused about the best order to watch all the films in the franchise — which can vary depending on each person’s personal preference. With that in mind, RECREIO will show you the release and chronological order of the “Shrek” films, so you can choose which way to watch them and start your marathon. Check it out!
