Due to the story’s resounding success, many fans have already created curious theories on social media involving the film; check out!
In 2024, the animation ‘Lilo & Stitch’ celebrates 22 years since its premiere in June 2002. Furthermore, this Wednesday, the 26th, Stitch Day is celebrated, a reference to its real name, Experiment 626. Due Due to the story’s resounding success, many fans have already created several curious theories on social media involving the characters and the plot of the film. With that in mind, RECREIO separated five of them for you to check out in the text below!
1. Lilo and Nani’s parents worked at the CIA
Early on, we discover that Lilo and her sister, Nani, lost their parents in a car accident during one of Hawaii’s biggest storms. Because of this, CIA agent and social worker Cobra Bubbles was sent to the young women’s home with the aim of ensuring that both were growing up in a healthy and happy environment.
However, as much as Bubbles seems like a father figure to the girls, it’s a bit strange that an agent from the US Central Intelligence Agency, who has also been involved with aliens in the past, would be sent to take care of them, right? The theory by user “Kapu_koa” on Reddit suggests that Bubbles was sent on this mission because Lilo and Nani’s parents were also CIA agents and knew the character. Therefore, the task of protecting them would be simpler.
2. Stitch is a cyborg
Discovering which species Stitch is is part of the process for those watching the film for the first time. According to user “Twerking_nine2five”, Stitch was not only an alien, but also a cyborg (an organism that consists of organic and cybernetic parts).
One of the scenes that introduces this idea during the film involves Jumba pointing out Stitch’s destructive programming, asking Lilo to reprogram him. Another example is when the character has thoughts faster than a supercomputer.

3. Nani was a surfing star
In some scenes in Nani’s room, you can see trophies displayed near a surfboard. The character never hid her affection for the sea throughout the film, and these objects led user “ZeromousPrime” to theorize that Nani was a star in the sport before her parents passed away. He also says that one of the reasons she gave up on following this dream was to take better care of Lilo.

4. Connection to the MCU
Just like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in ‘Lilo & Stitch’ we also see the rivalry between heroes and villains. Because of this fact, the user “Tolnin” believes that the two universes may be connected, with Cobra Bubbles being the cousin of Nick Fury (who also works in Shield), Gantu being the brother of Cull Obsidian and the Grand Councilor being the sister of Ebony Maw, both adopted children of Thanos.

5. The Pudge fish is also an experiment
User “Hollywood5050” believes that the fish Pudge, Lilo’s mascot who appears in the film’s opening scene, could also be an experiment like Stitch. Considering Lilo feeds him peanut butter sandwiches and believes Pudge can alter the weather, this theory actually makes sense.
