The British sovereign was in Normandy on Thursday, June 6, to commemorate the soldiers of the Second World War.
Charles III speaks fluent French and he proved it again. The King of England chose to deliver his speech in Moliere when he performed at Ver-sur-Ver on June 6. The British sovereign did go to Normandy with his wife Camilla Parker-Bowles to celebrate the landing of Allied troops on the beaches of Normandy at the end of World War II in the company of the Macron couple. Although his accent is still quite pronounced, the King was not undeserving, and we’ll forgive him this little mistake about the word “tragedy” that became “tragedy.”
As for the British monument erected behind him, King Charles declared that it also “pays special tribute to the greatest tragedy of the landings”. “We will never fail to pay tribute to the bravery of the men and women of the French resistance,” he also assured, in a serious tone.
Speaks French regularly
This is not the first time that Charles III has distinguished himself in French. In 1982, it was this language that he spoke alongside President Francois Mitterrand while participating in the ceremonies commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Bruneval raid. In a military uniform, with a beret on his head, he gave a remarkable speech. Recently, in September 2023, a year after ascending the throne, he demonstrated his talent in front of an audience of 300 parliamentarians in the French Senate.
