Discover who the actors are behind the characters in the prequel titled “The Hunger Games: A Song of Birds and Snakes”

Last week, Prime Vídeo added the film “The Hunger Games: A Song of Birds and Snakes” to its catalog. The production is a prequel to the four previous films, released between 2012 and 2015, which adapt the books of the same name by the American author Suzanne Collins.

The plot follows President Coriolanus Snow 64 years before the events experienced by Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), making it possible to understand the moment in which Snow left his heart filled with evil by accompanying him in the 10th edition Hunger Gameswhere he became a mentor to District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird, with whom he also fell in love.

To bring the plot to life, a brilliant cast was cast to play characters that previously only existed on the page. Find out who each of them are in the list below:

Tom Blyth as Coriolanus Snow

A member of a noble family from Panem, Coriolanus Snow is played by Tom Blyth, actor who appeared in Robin Hood (2010). Until then, the great roles of Blyth can be seen in the film “Benediction”, where he played Glen Byam Shaw, and in the series “Billy the Kid”, in which he plays the title character.

Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird

A member of the Covey, a group of traveling musicians who did not participate in the first rebellion that led to the Hunger Games, Lucy Gray Baird is the character of Rachel Zegler.

The actress’s first major role came in 2021, when she was cast in the remake of “West Side Story” winning the Golden Globe for ‘Best Actress – Musical or Comedy’. She has since appeared in ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ as Anthea, and was chosen for Disney’s live-action ‘Snow White’, where she will play the title character.

Coriolanus’ cousin, Tigris also appears in the original trilogy, becoming responsible for helping Katniss in the war against Snow. In the prequel, the character is played by Hunter Schaferwho made her debut in cinemas with this role, since, until then, the actress’s career was limited to TV, having participated in productions such as ‘Euphoria’, where she can be seen as Jules Vaughn.

Jason Schwartzman as Lucretius Flickerman

Relative of the well-known Caesar Flickerman (Stanley Tucci) in the original trilogy, Lucretius Flickerman is the host of the 10th Hunger Games, played by Jason Schwartzman. The actor is in the cast of films such as ‘Marie Antoinette’ (2006) ‘Journey to Darjeeling’ (2007) and ‘Asteroid City’ (2023).

The idea for The Hunger Games came from the mind of Casca Highbottom, a character played by Peter Dinklagean actor who was in major franchises such as “X-Men” and “Avengers”, but who gained prominence for playing Tyrion in ‘Game of Thrones’, a role that earned him eight Emmy nominations for ‘Best Supporting Actor’, leading four figurines for home.

Dr. Volumnia Gaul was responsible for making sure the Hunger Games were implemented and that it was truly brutal. The villain is played by the brilliant Viola DavisOscar-winning actress for ‘Best Actress’ for the role of Rose Lee Maxson in ‘Fences’.

She is also Amanda Waller in the DCEU, as well as Annalize Keating in the series ‘How to Defend a Murderer’ (2014 – 2020), Aibileen Clark in the film ‘Cross Stories’ (2011) and Nanisca in ‘The Woman King’ (2022).
