As puberty approaches, Riley will begin to feel different emotions. But will her parents also go through the same situation? Find it out!
On the eve of the premiere of “Inside Out 2”, which hits theaters later this month, a question related to protagonist Riley’s parents prevails: after all, will they also have new emotions?
During the plot of the first film, Riley and her parents only had the five primordial emotions, namely: Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Anger and Fear. Although the minds of both parents had different control panels, the emotions were the same, with no new additions or absences.
However, as Riley will go through puberty during the sequel, new emotions that relate to this phase will join the others, which makes us wonder if the same will happen to Mr. and Mrs. Andersen.
Throughout the trailer for “Inside Out 2” we are surprised by the anxiety, boredom, embarrassment and envy making up the control room in Riley’s mind. However, Pixar also decided to add another emotion to join the others, which was revealed through an exclusive studio event and published through a teaser on X (formerly Twitter) in the middle of last May: Nostalgia, represented by a lovely old lady.
The arrival of Nostalgia implies the theory that it will exist not only in Riley’s mind, but in that of her parents as well, as reported by the ScreenRant portal. Furthermore, if the sequence introduces them to other emotions, it could indicate that some of these personified feelings do not remain in the control room the entire time. Perhaps, Nostalgia is “someone” who arrives at the location only when Mrs. Andersen is longing for the past, returning to the depths of her mind when the feeling passes.
This theory could also give us some insight into the ending of “Inside Out 2,” as the trailer also shows us Joy and the rest of the primal emotions trapped in a bottle as anxiety and the other emotions of puberty take over the control panel. . If it is revealed that Riley’s parents temporarily host other emotions, it could indicate that the feature film’s new characters are only temporary residents of Riley’s mind, and that they will soon return to the depths of her mind before the sequel ends.
