Find out who is responsible for occupying the position of eighth member of BTS, according to the group’s leader himself
In 2010, BigHit Entertainment (currently BigHit Music) began the audition process to look for new talents who could form their next boy group, which initially had a hip-hop concept, but after internal changes, it ended up being changed to a K-pop idol group.
After three years of intensive training, in addition to having different trainees in its formation, the company finally announced who would be the seven boys responsible for forming Bangtan Sonyeondan, or simply BTS: RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope,Jimin, V It is Jungkook.
His official debut took place on June 13, 2013, with the album “2 Cool 4 Skool”, accompanied by the title track “No More Dream”.
Furthermore, four days before their long-awaited debut, the group also revealed the official name by which their fans would be known: ARMY. The word, which in English means “army”, emerged as an acronym for “Adorable Representative MC for Youth”. [“Adoráveis Representantes M.C (mestre de cerimônias) para a Juventude”].
Currently, due to the group’s undeniable success, many people have already revealed their desire to become the group’s eighth member. In fact, BTS almost had eight members, as, until about a year before their debut, the line-up also included trainee Kim Jihoonas revealed by him in an interview with VICE Asia in February 2022.
However, in one of the official fanclub kits, RMrevealed that the position of eighth member was already occupied by someone very special: the ARMYs. In his dedication, the boy group leader wrote:
“To ARMYs, the eighth member of BTS, thank you very much. I hope you know that your thoughts always give me strength, even when I feel tired and overwhelmed. I hope this all serves as a small source of comfort as we can’t see each other right now, and I know I’m sending you my unwavering and sincere love. I love you all ♡”.

If the position of eighth member was not already occupied by ARMYs, it would really be very difficult to imagine a new person composing the lineup — and this is a consensus among idols and fans.
During an interview with the North American magazine Wired (via UOL), the members commented that adding someone new was not something they wanted. In jest, Suga said, “Honestly, if a new member joined, I question how they would tolerate and adjust to us.”
While V he concluded by saying that the new member could hate them, Jin joked that seven is already a lot, while Jungkook ends by commenting that “all the rooms are occupied”.
