Boys and men danced an Easter dance, similar to the dance of Serbian military men.

The Ukrainian record was set by 225 men and boys who danced the Serbian ritual dance in the Carpathian region in the village of Cheertovets. This was reported by the National Museum of Folk Art of the Hutsul and Pokuttya region.

The length of the chain created by the dance participants reached 2,350 meters, the action lasted 1.5 hours.

Let’s remember that Serben is an old ritual dance, a gaevka, performed at Easter exclusively by men. The rhythmic movement of the serben consists of three steps forward, one step back, and swinging the arms up and then down. Serben is danced only by men and men holding hands.

Girls and women can only sing and watch the action. According to ethnographer Jaroslav Levkun, the Easter dance is similar to the Serbian military men’s dance.

We remind you that a new element has been added to the list of intangible cultural heritage. The list was supplemented by the practice of protecting Hutsul ornaments (patterns) and the associated cultural space.
