Discover some palaces that served as inspiration for Disney castles
Did you know that there isn’t just one Cinderella castle in the world? Although the most famous one is located in the Disney parks, the creators of the animation were inspired by a building that actually exists! And the princess’s house isn’t the only one: several buildings from Disney stories exist in real life.
Therefore, Recreio brought some buildings that served as inspiration for the palaces we see in Disney films. Check the list below:
1. Tangled
Mont Saint-Michel is a rocky island located in the northern region of France, known as Normandy, and served as inspiration for Rapunzel’s castle in “Tangled”.
2. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
The building we saw in “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” was inspired by the Alcázar of Segovia, which is located in Segovia, Spain. It is entirely fortified by stones.

3. Cinderella
A unique castle located in Scotland served as inspiration for the most famous Disney fairy tale: Cinderella.

4. Beauty and the Beast
The story of “Beauty and the Beast” takes place in France, and the inspiration for its palace could not be different: the French castle Château de Chambord remained in the imagination of the animators until it gained features in the film.

5. Mulan
The inspirations do not only come from the European continent: “Mulan” had the Forbidden City, in China, as inspiration for its film. The place was Beijing’s imperial palace during a period from the Ming Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty.

6. Alice in Wonderland
Although the house of the Queen of Hearts, from “Alice in Wonderland”, is quite peculiar, its gardens and the design of the castle were not so unusual. That’s because they were based at Windsor Castle in Berkshire, England.

7. The Little Mermaid
Who said things at the bottom of the sea are different from the surface? The castle of King Triton, Ariel’s father, is very similar to the Hotel Atlantis, which is located in Dubai, on the island of Palm Jumeirah.
