For several days, the network has been uploading the video of a young woman addressing the president of the republic. Her letter follows the trial of a mother who was the victim of domestic violence by her ex-partner.
In less than five days, the video has already collected 2 million views, 300,000 likes, and 30,000 comments. On April 15, a young TikTok user named “Broceliande” shared a shocking video with his subscribers, condemning the inaction of the justice system in the face of domestic violence. In almost six minutes, he rejects the president of the republic, Emmanuel Macron, who has made violence against women the “big reason” for his two mandates. In her apartment, a young woman tells her personal story, wondering about the loss of her mother’s trial, a victim of domestic violence by her ex-partner.
“Dear President, I have the honor to inform you that my mother has lost her job,” he begins, facing the camera, holding the pages of his speech. A little over a year ago, my sister called me to tell me that my mother had been assaulted by her ex-partner outside our home. After months of dreading the breakup, she finally found the courage to do it, and after months of begging him to come back, she finally saw that it wasn’t working. So one evening he waited, hiding all night under our house, and attacked her while she was returning from a party with friends.’
“Serious danger” phone
“Broseliand” continues, detailing the man’s character: violent, angry, obsessive, alcoholic, with many firearms and a criminal past. “Dear President, that night he not only attacked her, but also promised that if she did not return, he would kill her and maybe her children,” she continues, causing more than a year of intense harassment. And continue. “I’m talking to you about a man who sawed off the barrel of his gun six years ago (technique that promises more intense shooting power, Editor’s Note), and angrily pointed at me and my mother, shouting that we deserve to die.
Recounting her nightmarish daily life, with tears streaming down her face, she denounces the uselessness of the tools offered by the justice system in dealing with violence against women, as well as the inaction of the police. “My dear president, while you are sleeping peacefully, my little sister is having anxiety attacks and nightmares where she sees her whole family being killed (…) I don’t like to be pessimistic, but I don’t understand how can we still believe? it. When my mom calls the police to say she’s parked outside the house, they follow her and they say the street is public and she has a right to be there…”
“Maybe he’s lying…”
The young woman claims to have collected 37 attachments, complaints, affidavits and papers against her mother’s ex-partner. “Dear President, there are 2 trials and the only thing we lost was our protection order for six months. It’s not about a conviction, but a simple protective order that forbids him from approaching us. However, the judge decided not to protect the mother and her children because “maybe she is lying.” Conversely, the alleged attacker would produce a 5-page file to discredit his ex-partner, described as a “p***” and one of whose daughters “does black magic”.
She also questions the usefulness of the “serious danger hotline” system set up by the Department of Justice and Women’s Rights to protect victims of domestic violence or rape, which she told her family is completely unhelpful. “Dear President, I am afraid because every day I see that the number of murders of women is increasing, and for more than a year I cannot help but think that one day I will see the name of my mother and sisters there.” In his speech, he thinks about all the women who have been killed by their spouses. Because we didn’t believe them, even though the killers were often known to the police.”
And so I will finish. “My dear president, he is going to kill him. He will do it, maybe tomorrow, after six months or a year. There are some who have been waiting for the right moment for years.” If she explains that she thought for a long time before speaking publicly, then she says that she did it not for her, but for all the other women who live in the same situation and who need support. For the rest, he assures. “Dear President, I am writing to you, but I do not expect anything from you. You won’t listen to the dead, you won’t listen to the living.” His testimony, which ends with an extract from his mother’s phone call of “serious danger”, caused a stir on the Internet. Many Internet users also mentioned Emmanuel Macron and his Prime Minister Gabriel Atal. None of them have yet responded to the young woman’s letter.
