Why Did Pixar Never Release a ‘Wall-E’ Sequel?

Discover the real reason why Pixar was never interested in releasing a sequel to ‘Wall-E’, a film released in 2008

Over the years, Pixar has become known for releasing memorable sequences for its animations. Productions such as “Incredibles 2” (2019), “Monsters University” (2013), “Toy Story 2” (1999), “Toy Story 3” (2010) and “Toy Story 4” (2019) also became a great success, grossing millions at the worldwide box office.

In fact, the “Toy Story” franchise already has a fifth film confirmed, scheduled for release in 2026. For Pete Docterdirector of Pixar, the newest feature will be important to present to the public a side that has not yet been explored in the world of toys, and that the production “There are some really fun things that you haven’t seen before.”.

“What we’re really trying to do, and this has been the case for some time, is we look at them a little bit like, okay, we’re not planning for the future,” he told The Wrap. “When we made the first Toy Story, we had no idea there would be a Toy Story 2. We were just trying to make this movie. But when finished, it takes you to unexpected places, which is what I love about the creative process. If I knew exactly what I was doing when I started making a film, there would be no point in making it. I discover a lot along the way.”

However, something that has been questioned by fans is why “Wall-E” never received a second feature film, as the production is one of the studio’s biggest successes. At the box office alone, according to data from Box Office Mojo (via ScreenRant), the story of the beloved robot would have grossed more than 521 million dollars.

But, why did ‘Wall-E 2’ never happen?

Even though many admirers want a second film to happen, as reported by CinemaBlend and shared by ScreenRant, the president of Pixar, Jim Morrisbelieves that the plot is a finished story.

“It would be nice to go back and visit that world and let everyone know that humans actually survived again after returning to their burned-out planet. But this was really a love story that had a beginning, a middle and an end, so we’re not planning any more stories in those worlds at this point,” Morris said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
