The sequel to ‘Monsters Inc.’ that was discarded and almost no one knows about

Find out what the story was and why the sequel to ‘Monsters Inc.’, a film produced by Pixar and distributed by Disney, was discarded

Production Pixar Animation Studios distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, ‘Monsters, Inc.’ was released in 2001 to present the story of Sully and Mike, a duo who live in Monstropolis and work in the largest monster factory in existence, where they and other monsters have the task of crossing portals to the human world in order to scare children and collect their screams, as the loud sound they emit is capable of providing the energy necessary for the survival of the dimension in which they live.

Still, there is a rule: monsters should never come into contact with children to scare them, since in Monstropolis they believe that humans are toxic, and that if they touch each other, something destructive for the world could happen. .

However, everything changes when Mike and Sully end up meeting Boo, a cute little girl who ends up in the world of monsters, and who, amid the chaos that creates in Monstropolis with her visit, ends up changing the monsters’ beliefs about humans. and the way the place survives, as they discover that laughter is a much greater source of energy than screams.

The film, directed by Pete Docterbecame a huge success, grossing more than half a billion dollars at the box office, which made the title become a franchise, earning a prequel film titled ‘Monsters University’ and the series ‘Monsters at Work’, in addition to a canceled film sequence that would continue the relationship between Sully, Mike and Boo.

‘Monsters Inc.’ Sequel?

Under the title “Monsters, Inc. 2: Lost In Scaradise”, the scrapped sequel would be set about a year after the events seen in the first film. According to the Screenrant portal, upon seeing Sulley miss Boo, Mike arranges a visit to the human world on Boo’s birthday, but when they go through the door that leads to the little girl’s room, they don’t find her, in fact, they just see a lady sleeping. .

Believing they have ended up in the wrong place, Mike and Sulley venture into the human world after Boo, giving up searching only when they realize that the portals are connected to specific people, and that where people live, time passes much faster, so the The elderly woman they saw in a deep sleep was Boo.

With this, the duo ends up paying their last visit to Boo, who is in the hospital, and having a reunion with Sulley and Mike, one of the last things they do.

Why was it discarded?

Despite being moving, the story ended up being discarded while the studios adapted to new realities. This is because Disney and Pixar, who came together in the 1990s, ended the partnership after the release of seven films planned in the contract.

At the end of the agreement, the company created by Roy It is Walt Disney teamed up with Circle 7 Animation which, instead of Pixar, would be responsible for producing the sequences planned by the studio, as the rights to the story and characters were held by Disney. But, before the new films could get off the ground, Circle 7 Animation ceased to exist.

Still, a new chance for sequels to ‘Monsters Inc.’, ‘Toy Story’ and ‘Finding Nemo’ arose when Disney bought Pixar in 2006. So much so that all the franchises mentioned got new titles, even though the sequel previously planned for Mike and Sully’s adventure has instead been seen in the prequel ‘Monsters University’.
