Find out everything that happened during the Jonas Brothers’ 2013 split, and how they got back together six years after the announcement
In 2013, fans of the Jonas Brothers were surprised by the announcement that the trio would be separating. At the time, the brothers did not give many explanations about the real reason behind the separation, and only stated that it was time to “close a chapter”, as reported by G1 in the same year.
As time went by, when everyone was already dedicating themselves to their individual projects, Nick, Kevin It is Joe They gradually revealed in interviews the reasons for the band’s end, the main one being a disagreement between the brothers.
In conversation with IMPACT x Nightline, Joe revealed that, at the time, the situation between the three became so complicated that they only spoke through their father, Paul. About that, Nick assumed during his participation in the program “Watch What Happens Live” that he was responsible for the end of the group.
“It was a very complicated conversation and left my family in trouble for a while. We were about to start a tour. We were two days away from traveling”, said the singer.
In the book “Blood”, which presents the life and career of the Jonas Brothers, Joe vents saying that the decision to Nick ending the band was like a “tsunami” for him.
“The tsunami grew inside me until it exploded and wiped out everything in its path. Sometimes we need to tear ourselves apart to grow again with a stronger foundation. Throughout my life, I know I will always have my brothers as family, friends and blood” .
O Jonas in the middle still says that, during the conversation, Kevin he even tried to avoid the separation, and suggested a farewell tour — something that would have left him even more upset.
“It was all over and he tried to commercialize it. It wasn’t cool. I opened my mouth to speak, and the words exploded.”, Joe said.
Triumphal return
After six years apart, the Jonas Brothers announced their big comeback in 2019, with the single “Sucker”. During the release of the track, in an interview with “The Late Late Show”, Nick explained how they decided it was time to get back together.
“Basically, a year and a half ago, we started recording a documentary that shows our childhood, our time in the band. It would be a story about where we are today… that is, separated, each in our own way. Joe with DNCE, me with my solo music. During this time, we realized that there was a type of magic that was missing. So the process was basically ‘Why not give it another chance?’. Then we started playing together again and we realized right away that this is how it has to be these days.”
Since then, the trio has been actively working together, and have released two albums after their return: “Happiness Begins” (2019) and “The Album” (2023), in addition to releasing a series of singles and collaborations, such as “What A Man Gotta Do”, “Wings”, “Do It Like That” ft. TOMORROW X TOGEHTER, among others.
Furthermore, next Tuesday, the 16th, Kevin, Joe It is Nick has a unique show in Brazil scheduled to take place in São Paulo, at the Allianz Parque stadium, with the “THE TOUR” tour, where they celebrate their five already released albums.
