The capital hosted a pre-premiere screening of a film about the American Civil War, which is worth watching for Ukrainians.
In Kyiv, the pre-premiere screening of the film Rising of the States, directed by Alex Garland, which has been called an “apocalyptic action film,” took place.
According to the British director, known for the films Ex Machina, Annihilation and 28 Days Later, the events of the film take place in the USA. There is a civil war in the country, and its president, who violates the laws, is re-elected for a third presidential term.
The film’s plot revolves around correspondents who strive to prepare Pulitzer Prize-worthy material and embark on a journey through war-torn states. On their journey from New York to Washington, they witness brutality and here and there heroism, record mass murders and petty crimes. They put the risk of death on the same level as the desire to take a good shot or grab a bright story for a future report.
The closed screening of Rise of the States was attended by journalist and producer of the Oscar-winning documentary film 20 days in Mariupol Vasilisa Stepanenko, actor and director Akhtem Setablayev, and journalist Roman Kravets. The special guests of the show are Konstantin and Vlada Liberov, whose photos with the facts of the Ukrainian war are scattered around the world.
Despite the fact that the film tells a fictional story, from the first moments it is striking in its parallels with the Ukrainian present. The dynamic plot, incredible acting and powerful soundtrack will keep you hooked from start to finish.
Rise of the States illuminates the weight and importance of the profession of war correspondents, able to go through fire, bullets and death to open the eyes of the world to the reality of war.
The film will be released in Ukrainian on April 11, 2024.
