The actor presented the first episodes of the series Fiasco preview on Monday, April 8, during the Cannes Film Festival. A chance to chat with him about the behind the scenes of filming and the five star casting of the show.
At its opening ceremony on Friday, April 5, the Cannes Film Festival welcomed the co-stars of the sitcom. Terminal. Three days later it was Pierre Niney and his gang’s turn to enliven the Croisette. The actor has indeed introduced his Netflix series Fiascowas created with Igor Gotesman, who is also the co-creator of its series role(s). In Fiasco, Pierre Nini plays an uncharismatic director whose filming goes awry. This Monday, April 8th, we’ll catch her on sunny Majestic Beach, halfway through a marathon day, in between posing for a photocall alongside her co-stars François Civil, Géraldine Nakache and Pascal Demolon and meeting fans. Ability to generate, collapse, origin Fiasco, behind the scenes of the show, and what makes its cast so powerful. The most impatient, however, will have to wait until Tuesday April 30 to discover this most unusual program.
Madame Figaro. – Before marking Fiasco , we have a very important question. What does that miniature donkey you recently adopted look like?
Pierre Niney. – Ah, my miniature ass. It touched a lot of people, more than I imagined, but I’m delighted. I love animals, I spend a lot of time with them. This miniature donkey that a friend gave us was a really important chapter in my life, and still is. Her name is Neroli and she is doing very well.

How was the idea? Fiasco ?
It comes from the imagination of Igor Gottesman, who talked to me about this project more than 15 years ago. You don’t need to know anything about cinema to love the series. It is primarily a matter of diving into the bath of a workplace comedy (a comedy focused on the world of work Editor’s Note), where we reveal the hierarchies, egos, comparisons, rivalries and jealousies between people, as can be found in many workplaces. Except there, on top of that, we’re dressed like Vikings or Louis XIV, so it was pretty cool to shoot.
Why did you choose the cooking format?
After the miniseries role(s) that we had done together, Igor and I, it was logical that we went from casting to the backstage of filming. We asked ourselves what would be the most intrusive on set that would allow us to steal pictures, and we told ourselves that if someone was smart enough to set up microphones and film people, the set could capture this atmosphere. Igor and I love such series The office, by Ricky Gervais, or its American version. We also love Netflix documentaries with people testifying years later on camera to recount the drama. We told ourselves that making was a good format to tell the story of an absolutely chaotic shoot.
What is your best memory from filming?
We decided to do a comedy scene that we had never seen before. We were in this red Porsche with Francois Civil’s character Tom, who is my character Raf’s childhood friend. Raf is a totally charismatic director, a great loser, at least a loser, that’s for sure, great, I don’t know. It’s kind of badass Ben Affleck in Ridley Scott. We were in this car, so we decided to drift (slips, editor’s note) in real life, rolling in smoke while screeching tires. And at the same time perform a comedy scene with a lot of stakes, which takes place in a car. François had to learn to drift and I had to trust him so I wouldn’t end up in blood or on the roof of the car. It was quite stressful. You can even see in the series if you watch closely that you get mini laughs and moments of genuine excitement. That was great to do. We also enjoyed dressing up as vikings. We had a lot of fun, and I hope that’s communicative.

Any fiascos on set? Fiasco ?
I think we managed to create lightning with the theme of this series. We had time to improvise, to look for the most absurd situations. We had fun doing a lot of awkward comedy looking for puns. This series combines many of the types of humor we love. There is something for every taste. But we were lucky, we didn’t have any big problems, except for one day when we brought a company to put snow on the set. It was made with potato starch to make it ecologically clean. There was a terrible storm in the night and everything melted. They were good, they came to give us some.
What Makes Casting? Fiasco ?
There are many great talents. Vincent Cassel plays a character we love to hate, an actor who takes himself way too seriously. Geraldine Nakashe is so believable as the first assistant director who has to pull this project through her hands while everything goes live. And then, obviously, there’s Francois Civil, who I love to play with. Pascal Demono who was with us Five, plays a crazy but exciting producer who ends up living in his car because he’s so devastated by this disastrous movie. There are also talents that we know a little less, like Leslie Medina or Juliette Gasquet. Juliette Gasquet plays an intern who appears in the film and will have more and more responsibilities. I dare not like his character. She is amazing and she melts everyone’s hearts.
