Madame Figaro. – What are you most grateful for since the beginning of your long association with David Lynch?
Kyle McLachlan. – From our meeting, which in itself was already a chance. At the time, I was working at a small theater in Seattle, Washington. I didn’t dream of coming to Hollywood. I met a casting director who took me to Los Angeles. It was during this visit that I met David and we had a pleasant conversation. I immediately liked it. We talked about the role of Paul Atreides Sand dune (1984). I auditioned, which he helped me a lot with, and I ended up getting the part. These early days were important in building the foundation of our relationship. Over the years we became closer and closer friends and worked together several times.

Throughout your career, you’ve made many bold choices. What drives you to delve into such original projects?
I just love the show. I really enjoy big, intense experiences. Of course I love smaller budget movies like Blue velvet (1986), whose history is more intimate. But I also like big projects, maybe because that’s how I started playing Sand dune (1984), a very large production. This is where I feel most comfortable. decline is closer to this type of film.
What do you think of the performance of Timothée Chalamet, who recently reprized the role of Paul Atreides in the remake? Sand dune ?
He did a great job. The role of Paul is complicated, because he is a character that involves a lot. There are few moments in the book when he reveals what is going on in his head. We can’t really understand what she’s going through. It takes a certain depth as an actor to be able to convey that to the audience.
Ella Purnell who plays your daughter Lucy decline received the Rising Star Award from Madame Figaro . What do you think makes him so talented?
He has a very optimistic character. He is not afraid to take on a new adventure, and he has great emotional depth. He has a very warm personality and is never reserved. Ella is also brave and seems to have a beautiful outlook on life, which she takes full advantage of. He has a beautiful, supportive family, which is important. And she recently adopted a dog, so it’s all good.

What is your best memory from filming?
My first day was quite memorable. At the beginning of the series, Hank lives in an underground shelter and travels through these huge tunnels. When I discovered that the decor was authentic, I said to myself, And Jonathan’s Way (Nolan, director, editor’s note) greeted us so warmly, he was so present for us. The first day was a very important moment for me and I felt very good from the beginning.
In decline , you play a father, which you are also in life. How has having a baby affected your game?
Having a son, mine is 15, profoundly changes who you are. I didn’t understand it before. Besides, it was impossible to understand. But I often say that when my son Callum was born, it was like a door opened, a door I didn’t know existed. Imagine a wall and suddenly you see this opening appear. Then you feel a love that is so different from a relationship or passion. It’s a deeper and richer experience. It’s hard to explain, but it’s different. Of course, as actors, we rely on our emotions to perform. Now, as a father, I understand better what that means. And I really appreciate the fact that I have been able to play the role of father several times.
