During an interview with Variety (via ScreenRant) in 2023, Spears recalled several moments in her career, where she revealed that, when the series was nearing its end, she began reading several scripts to audition, with one of them being for the first “Twilight” film.
However, the actress claims that she ended up leaving the script aside, believing that no one would be interested in a film about vampires.
“I read for ‘Twilight.’ This was before vampires really made their mark. We all love watching stories about vampires, but I literally thought, ‘Vampires? Are you kidding me?’ I remember reading it and thinking, ‘Who’s going to watch these vampires?’ Boy, was I wrong,” commented Jamie.
In fact, our eternal Zoey Brooks’ assumption couldn’t be more wrong. Since its release, the franchise has become a huge success in cinemas, being considered the best-performing vampire saga in cinemas.
In total, adding the box office sales of all five adaptations, the story created by Stephenie Meyer grossed around US$3.3 billion at the global box office, with the last film, “Breaking Dawn — Part 2”, being the most profitable, grossing approximately US$800 million alone.
