The National Council requests that an updated international version be made and distributed to broadcasters, in which the fragment with the “Best Feature Documentary Film” nomination will be retained.
The National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting sent a letter to the management of the Walt Disney Company with a request to add the awarding film “20 days in Mariupol” to the international television version. This was stated in a message on the council’s website.
According to the company, Mstislav Chernov’s film, which received a golden statuette, was not included in the shortened version due to time constraints. Disney representatives also added that the selection of nominations for the short version was predetermined.
“We find it hard to believe that such a decision by the staff of the studio was a politically motivated decision, agreed upon by the management of the company. We are also familiar with the explanations of the Studio regarding the pre-planning of the shortened version and think that it is also understandable “We regret the decision of the Ukrainian public broadcaster to show this episode in Ukraine – it is of particular importance to our country, which has been engulfed by the deadly fire of enemy bombing,” the National Council said.
The National Council regrets that audiences in many countries in the Eastern Hemisphere will not be able to see the awards ceremony for the film depicting the horrors of war, or hear the powerful speech of director Mstislav Chernov.
Earlier it was reported that the organizers cut the nomination “Best Feature Documentary Film” from the shortened version of the international television Oscars, where the film “20 Days in Mariupol” won.
20 days in Mariupol will be released in cinemas
