He thanked the film team for “telling the world the truth.”
The First Lady of Ukraine Elena Zelenskaya reacts to the Oscar for the Ukrainian film 20 days in Mariupol. He wrote it on social networks.
“The first Ukrainian Oscar was for the documentary film 20 days in Mariupol. A very important victory for the whole country – because the truth is the first winner. Just a few days ago, two years have passed since the Russians dropped a air bomb in a maternity hospital in Mariupol. Two years since they tried to hide a terrible crime committed against an entire city. Against humanity. Thank you, Mstislav Chernov, Evgeniy Maloletka, Vasilisa Stepanenko, for telling the whole real world. We paid a terrible price for this award. However, now everyone in Ukraine is proud of you!” – said Zelenskaya.
As you know, 20 days in Mariupol became the third Ukrainian film to receive an Oscar nomination. In previous years, nominees have included House of Pieces directed by Simon Lereng Vilmont in 2023 and Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom directed by Evgeniy Afineevsky in 2016.
We remind you that the Ukrainian film 20 days in Mariupol received an Oscar as the best documentary film.
