“Boris Godunov” on Champs Elysees
It was in its initial version in 1869 Boris Godunov, The Summit of Russian Opera is presented at the Champs Elysees Theater. Inspired by Pushkin’s play, this opera, Mussorgsky’s only completed opera, was rejected by the censors and then rearranged. It is both a reflection of the loneliness and lust for power of men in power, and the manipulation and enslavement of people. Olivier Pin (whose film, Moliere Imaginary, just out in theaters) is his first production of Mussorgsky’s work. Latvian conductor Andris Poga conducts the Orchester National de France.

Stefan Eicher in “Olympia”.
Annik Wetter / SP:
During his forty-something career, Stephan Eicher, the Bob Dylan of German-speaking Switzerland, has taken the time to explore several musical universes, as fitting in the gypsy music of his family’s origins as in the electronica of his origins (Blue songs1983), rock ( Engelberg1991) and folk (the flight 2012). After the tour The junkyardIn 2021, where he sang with his four musicians on a real wooden raft, the polyglot artist crosses Belgium, France and Switzerland until May 25. And here it is which allows him to perform the twelve magnificent compositions of his new album, Air, most of whose lyrics were obviously written by Philip Jian. But also review some of his successes ( Lunch in peace, still relevant as ever). On the menu: elegance, lightness, tender surrealism and a nod to Leonard Cohen. However, as always, no reminders are scheduled.

Mohammed Bourouissan at Tokyo Palace
Daniel Roché, Mohamed Bourouissa Studio Bourouissa / SP:
The exhibition was almost called Seum: (Arabic bitterness). Signal, more consensually, was chosen as the first retrospective title at the national institution by Mohammed Bourouisa, born in Blida, Algeria in 1978, who lives and works in Gennevilliers. There we find his favorite themes: limitation of bodies, representation of identity, management of language, care through plants, music… Next to his Cloud Museum, a joint project with Gaza artists, his new film. Genealogy of violence (2023, 2024) designed in the room. Or how he defies the mechanism of police inspection and reveals the internal appearance of the body under threat. Just a few pictures say it all.

“The Silence,” a manifesto piece in Vieux-Colombier
Jean-Louis Fernandez / SP
The “Vieux-co” (which has been part of the rooms of the Comédie-Française since its re-opening in 1993), created by Jacques Coupault more than a century ago, surprises with its radicality. Here it is, the new arthouse theater The silence, a play by Guillaume Pois and Lorraine de Sagazan inspired by Antonioni’s films. This work erases the text and erases what constitutes theatre. He’s the ghost in the five mute (or almost) characters and the dog room. The language is somewhere else. It comes from gestures, past improvisations, actors’ unconsciousness. Black and white images are displayed simultaneously. Each audience fills the story between disappearance, loneliness and the instability of perception. A tour de force!
