Madame Figaro. – At the time of waking up?
Emmanuel Ramo. – My alarm goes off at 7am, but my three kids have taught me the snooze function, I sometimes overdo it…always within reason.
If we have to go back to the source ?
Mother in the health sector, father in RATP recruitment… I had no intention of pursuing a career in finance, but my parents instilled in me the value of work; move on, don’t complain, take action. After undergrad, I felt that understanding the economic system would allow me to better understand the world. In 1991, aged 23, with my DESS in Banking and Finance in hand, I applied to various banks and landed a position at Paribas, a leading investment bank. I’m still there.

Course accelerators.
I never thought that I would stay in the same group for more than thirty years. I have the soul of a businessman, I go for it. At first, when I met with business leaders, I said to myself: “Why am I not with them?”, but accompanying them, I felt like their partner, an entrepreneur like them. I quickly fell in love with this role and learned from every encounter.
Obstacles on the way.
Jumping into a man’s world wasn’t easy at first, but I like the challenge. My childhood friend makes fun of me when I say that I am very lucky. He answers me that it was I who made my path and life happy. And deep down, it’s true, I don’t see any obstacles, just situations that need to be resolved.
A decisive moment ?
There was more than one… The merger of BNP and Paribas in 2000 led me to join the CIB (Corporate and Institutional Banking) department, where I discovered the international dimension of operations. The move to the provinces allowed me to discover “retail”, inventing a new model of diversity between private and corporate banks and to develop my skills and my ability to bring teams together. Then, in 2014, I was called back to Paris to create a special system to support business leaders. Throughout my life, I have never stopped adapting and learning positive things from every change.
Mother in healthcare, father in RATP recruitment… I had no plans for a career in finance.

The height of your position.
Coordinate synergies between BNP Paribas group entities and the private bank to better serve entrepreneurs. My daily routine is to listen, organize, make connections, give the right advice at the right time. I’m also here to change the face of private banking, which is more modern, at the heart of the real economy, and which supports all customer segments, from young startups to major philanthropic leaders.
Some numbers?
We are France’s leading private bank in terms of assets under trust with €127 billion.
Who trusted you?
Everyone except me! It was the kindness and trust of others that kept me going. Artificial intelligence will play a big role in our lives, but I remain convinced that humans will always be the key. Trusting yourself and others means continuing to believe that we all have great value.
I have the soul of a businessman, I go for it

Your next challenge?
Make BNP Paribas the private bank of choice for entrepreneurs and continue to develop SRI, socially responsible investing.
What would you like to convey?
Confidence, optimism and collective spirit – the joy of building together.
