“There is no Ken without Barbie.” Ryan Gosling defends Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie snubbed at Oscars

The actor protested in a press release published this Wednesday, January 24, against the actress and director not being nominated in some Oscar categories.

Even though the Oscar nominations just dropped on January 23rd, Ryan Gosling responded in a press release today to several outlets, including: Time magazine And CNN: . Nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Ken barbie(Alongside Robert De Niro for Flower Moon Assassins or even for Robert Downey Jr Oppenheimer ), the actor did not hesitate to express his dismay at the lack of Oscar nominations of his colleagues, actress and producer Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig.

Thanks a lot

Although Greta Gerwig’s film was meant to be pro-feminist, it ended up being her lead who is up for an Academy Award (as well as America Ferrara in the same female category). The irony is palpable, and Ryan Gosling is aware of it.

In his press release, the actor first welcomes his nomination. “It’s an honor to be nominated by my peers alongside such distinguished artists in a year that saw so many great films,” Ryan stated. Gosling. And I never thought I’d say this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud to have played with a plastic doll named Ken.” But despite this apparent elation, the actor doesn’t regret the lack of nominations for Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig in a film he describes as “historic and world famous”. Ryan Gosling believes that the work of his colleagues “should be recognized”, and if “there is no Ken without Barbie”, “There is no Barbie movie without Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig.

The two women, however, appear in other categories, but not separately: Greta Gerwig for Best Adaptation alongside her husband and co-writer Noah Baumbach, and Margot Robbie for Best Production Design and Best Costumes.
