Before checking out the new revival, remember what happened at the end of ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’, a classic Disney Channel series
Last Thursday, the 18th, Deadline reported exclusively that “Wizards of Waverly Place”, one of Disney Channel’s most acclaimed series, will receive a revival starring David Henriethe original Justin Russo.
According to the portal, Selena Gomez will also work on the series as a producer, in addition to making a special appearance in the first episode, where she will return to her classic role of Alex Russo. The production does not yet have a premiere date.
The new plot will begin after a mysterious incident at WizTech, when Justin decides to give up his wizard powers, in order to have a normal human life with his wife and children — something similar to what happened to his father, Jerry (David DeLuise). However, everything changes when a young wizard appears on the doorstep of the eldest Russo, who is forced to embrace his past and train the boy.
With the revival confirmed, it is important to remember some of the events of the last episode of the series, to understand the beginning of this plot. If you don’t remember what happened, don’t worry, RECREIO tells you everything!
Wizard competition
Divided into two parts, the last episode of the series begins with Alex making dinner for her family on her own — something that surprises everyone in the house, since, normally, the girl was not used to cooking, and was quite lazy.
While the Russos, alongside Harper (Jennifer Stone), praised the young woman’s attitude, Professor Krümel (Ian Abercrombie) appears in the room, revealing that this act of kindness was what was needed for the family’s wizard competition to begin, and everyone heads to the place where the dispute will take place.
Justin and Alex’s boyfriends, Juliet (Bridgit Mendler) and Mason (Gregg Sulkin), end up arriving at the competition to support their loved ones shortly afterwards. Harper and Zeke (Dan Benson), however, as they were not sorcerers, they stayed at home and decided to follow the event through Abracadubro.
However, while Harper is preparing popcorn, Zeke ends up inhaling something unknown, turning purple. Worried, the couple finds a way to go to the competition to ask for help. When they get there, while talking to their friends, the two end up being captured by a giant bird and taken to the top of a mountain.
So, Alex, Justin and Max (Jake T. Austin) decide to use their break time to save their best friends. The plan works, however, the brothers are unable to return in time for the competition, and the three are disqualified, with magic being taken away from the Russo family.
Family fights
After the incident, Justin and Max blame Alex for the event, and the brothers move away. Seeing his children’s disunity, Jerry decides to sell the family snack bar, as the business was not working due to constant fights between the younger ones.
Shocked by their father’s decision, the young people decide to make an effort to keep the establishment open and, after a lot of struggle, they get their customers back, in addition to resolving their issues. While talking, everyone is taken back to the competition arena, where it is revealed that everything was just a test to test the family’s ties, and the dispute is resumed.

The Russo brothers then enter the final stage of the competition, and face challenges such as a bridge of maggots and a maze, until they reach the final corridor. Alex, who was in front and about to cross the finish line, suddenly stops after realizing that Justin was stuck in the root of a tree.
After struggling a bit about what to do, the girl decides to return to help her older brother who, after being saved, ends up arriving first, winning the competition.
When Professor Krümel was about to announce Justin as the family’s sorcerer, the boy interrupts him, saying that, if he hadn’t stopped to save him, Alex would have crossed the finish line first, and that, therefore, she should be the big winner.
Despite questioning her brother’s decision, Alex ends up being elected the family witch. Before saying goodbye, Krümel also announces that he will retire, and passes all his powers to Justin who, initially, because he lost the competition, should be without his abilities. Finally, the youngest Max resigns himself to no longer being a wizard, and ends up inheriting the family snack bar.
