The Gossip Reunion. We started from nothing and twenty years later making music together is incredible. I chose to go the solo route, but legendary producer Rick Rubin encouraged us to reform. My trip?
I’m still that young girl from Arkansas with the direct and caring attitude of the American South. I was born in Searcy, a small town with a modern Western feel reminiscent of the photographs of American photographer William Eggleston or the paintings of Edward Hopper. My mother was struggling to feed her six children, and I happened to have a squirrel on my plate that I wouldn’t eat. I left home at 12, followed my passion for music and managed to stay on my feet. I am very proud of it. I owe a lot of that to my Gossip group, because I was a kid when I met Nathan Hovdeshel, one of the members. I was 17 years old.
My musical culture?
It’s family first. My brother especially had a boogie-woogie band, but also listened to Patsy Cline, Kool & The Gang, and the Bee Gees.

Is promoting myself a chore?
I started my career as a punk musician and singer and the rules always made me uncomfortable. But I know how to fit in when I decide. However, to be honest, in the beginning, outside the stage, I could not stand being exposed, being observed. Now I am no longer afraid, I feel less vulnerable.
My ideal outfit for an interview.
1950s heavy makeup. Hair dyed black or Venetian blonde. A glamorous size 46 dress, short and colorful that accentuates my curves, which I fully embrace. All reclining, if possible, on a soft velvet sofa or a blue silk chaise longue.

I don’t know any artists who don’t like to tease. But I’m also a fighter and stand up for LGBT rights whenever possible.

The question I am afraid of.
In the early days of Gossip, I was often asked a lot of questions about our song Heavy cross, which served as the soundtrack for a Dior perfume ad. I was a little embarrassed. It was stupid because I love fashion and I’m happy that our music is useful for other designers. Furthermore, because of this ad, I was able to buy the house I live in in Portland.
