INTERVIEW – In his book There is no such thing as a perfect couplepsychoanalyst and marriage therapist Cecilia Como disrupts preconceptions about the ideal relationship.
Their names are Alicia and Jonathan. In 2019, this couple in their thirties walked through the office door of marriage therapist and sexologist Cecilia Comeau. Lovers come neither to repair relationships damaged by infidelity nor to restore broken contact. Happy and in love, they are about to move in together and have a request for a professional to give them the keys to perfect marital bliss.
This request inspires Cecilia Como in her work There is no such thing as a perfect couple (1), published in January 2022. The psychoanalyst destroys the myth of the ideal relationship, which is transmitted by movies, novels or even social networks, and which harms us. “There are no instructions for use,” the author immediately emphasizes. On the contrary, it invites us to ignore instructions and, above all, to love ourselves in all our imperfection.
