With just one day left until the end of 2023, we are already at the exact moment to make that list of our favorite releases of the year. In the world of K-pop, the last 12 months were marked by memorable debuts and comebacks, which helped make our year even more complete.
After all, who also didn’t melt with the challenges of “Flower”, by Jisooalongside cute animals, or it remained with “Seven”, from Jungkook, stuck in your head for days? Not to mention the iconic choreographies of “Super”, by SEVENTEEN, “Bouncy”, by ATEEZ, “Super Shy”, by NewJeans and “SET ME FREE”, by TWICE, which were reproduced by thousands of people around the world.
To celebrate the year that is already coming to an end, the RECREIO team decided to list our 10 favorite k-pop releases of 2023. Check it out!
1st Jungkook — GOLDEN and Jisoo — ME
With b-sides as addictive as the title tracks, RECREIO’s top 1 could not be another: “GOLDEN”, by Jungkookand “ME”, from Jisoowere our favorite albums of the year.
2nd SEVENTEEN — Super
“Super” is the title track of the album “FML”, voted “Album of the Year” at MAMA 2023. The track managed to win over everyone, as well as remaining in our heads to this day — not to mention the choreography that has already gone down in history .
3rd TWICE — SET ME FREE
Valuing the members’ vocals, and featuring choreography that also makes you want to dance right away, “SET ME FREE” and the album “READY TO BE” helped TWICE reach new milestones in their career — and we can’t wait to see her live at the Brazil show!
4th ATEEZ — BOUNCY (K-Hot Chili Peppers)
Featuring a powerful concept, “BOUNCY (K-Hot Chili Peppers)” also remained stuck in our heads for months. The music alone is great, but the most satisfying thing was watching it live during the group’s visit to Brazil. Impossible not to get goosebumps!
5th (G)I-DLE — Queencard
“Queencard” was, without a doubt, one of the biggest K-pop hits of 2023. The song joined (G)I-DLE’s huge list of hits, and was seen everywhere, from variety shows, award shows , or even being cited countless times by other artists.
6th NewJeans — Get Up and OMG
The title of “Artists of the Year” was not for nothing! 2023 truly was the year of NewJeans, and choosing just one song would be impossible. “Ditto”, released in December 2022, was also chosen as “Song of the Year” at MAMA 2023, while the album “Get Up” presented us with six new anthems that are never left on repeat. Not to mention “OMG”, released on the second day of the year, which became a hit all over the world.
7th Stray Kids — S-Class
Featuring an incredible mix of rhythms, “S-Class” was the track responsible for giving Stray Kids their first VMA award in the “Best K-Pop” category in 2023. The track, which features a breathtaking music video, managed to infect everyone with its striking chorus and unforgettable choreography.
8th Red Velvet — Chill Kill
“Chill Kill” was Red Velvet’s first full-album in six years, and made up for all the Reveluvs’ waiting time. In addition to bringing back the much-loved velvet concept, the album also presents another great feature of the group: the impeccable b-sides.
9th LE SSERAFIM — UNFORGIVEN
LE SSERAFIM’s first full-album was a tremendous success! In addition to the title track, “UNFORGIVEN”, becoming a hit, the b-side “Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeard’s Wife” also fell into the public’s mouth — in addition to the other tracks on the album being equally perfect.
10th IVE — I AM
“I AM”, title track from IVE’s first full-album, is also one of the biggest hits of 2023. In addition to the iconic meme of Wonyoung, the track itself is everything pop fans love — not to mention the members’ impeccable vocals on the song. The b-sides from the album “I’ve IVE” are also worth checking out.
Honorable mention: MOONBIN&SANHA — Madness
It is impossible to finish this list without mentioning “Madness”, the latest release from ASTRO’s MOONBIN&SANHA unit. The track is very well produced, and presents all the talent that the duo has to give and sell, ranging from powerful vocals, to a striking choreography and, of course, a lot of charisma. Artists!
