Jimmy Kimmel had the same reaction as millions of Oscar viewers Sunday night when Will Smith hit Chris Rock: he didn’t think it was true.
“I told my wife,‘ They did really well with this shot, it’s realistic, ’” Kimmel said Monday night. “About three seconds later, we realized it was because it was true.”
Two-time award host Kimmel also praised Rocky. He noticed that the comedian was hit, released the rope, and then submitted the Best Documentary category, “as if he just wasn’t hit by the Prince of Bel-Er.”
“[Rock] So he was able to get on the Oscars stage. “He wasn’t even shocked when Will hit him,” Kimmel said. “I was crying very hard”.
When friends asked Kimmel what she would do if she was on stage, she said, “I want to run away.”
“When I saw Will Smith get up from his chair, I was already in the middle of Wetzel’s Pretzel and enjoying samples in front of the store,” Kimmel added.
