Republican Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson on Sunday blamed former President Donald Trump for the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.
Trump is “politically and morally responsible for what happened,” Hutchinson told Brett Byer on Fox News Sunday.
However, the outgoing head of state said the House-chosen jury investigating the siege has not yet approved more of Trump’s role.
“In terms of criminal liability, I think the committee has a long way to go to determine that,” said Hutchinson, who is in his senior year because of time constraints. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a Trump loyalist and former White House spokeswoman, is the MP to replace her.
Public jury hearings on the uprising to overturn the results of the 2020 election are expected to continue Monday, with the goal of proving Trump’s guilt. Hutchinson said the establishment of a criminal union was a “huge increase”. But jury members said Sunday they had enough evidence to file criminal charges against the former president’s double impeachment.
Hutchinson called January 6 a “costly mistake” that was “wrong for our country” and “wrong to go in that direction”.
“I think Republicans need to be in the spirit of what’s right here and what’s right, what needs to be said for our party, our democracy and our future, and not just face some of the more embarrassing instinct. ” “Our base,” he said.
