See how the tribute to Taylor Swift was held at Christ the Redeemer

The projection in honor of Taylor Swift at Christ the Redeemer was held last Thursday, 16

On the night of last Thursday, the 16th, one of the most important monuments in Brazil, Christ the Redeemer, located in Rio de Janeiro, gained new colors, lighting and texts when welcoming the owner of the hit song “Anti-Hero”: Taylor Swift.

The artist, who arrived on Brazilian soil on the afternoon of the same date to prepare for the shows of “The Eras Tour” that will take place on the 17th, 18th and 19th at the Nilton Santos Engenhão Stadium, in Rio de Janeiro, was welcomed by fans with a tribute that had been requested on social media for days.

This is because, since last Sunday, the 12th, Swifties, as the singer’s fans are called, held an online campaign asking for a shirt printed with the phrase: “Junior Jewels”, identical to the one worn by Taylor in the video for “You Belong With Me”, was projected onto the monument on the date the singer arrived in Brazil.

The hundreds of requests gained the attention of the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paeswho suggested that the idea be taken to the Father Omarrector of the Cristo Redentor Sanctuary, responsible for managing the place, so that the possibility could be discussed.

In this way, the Father Omar launched a challenge for the Swifities: if the idol’s fanbase managed to raise more than 20 thousand units of panettone and mineral water by 9pm on last Thursday, the 16th, to help people in situations of vulnerability and social exclusion, the monument would gain the dream projection .

It is worth noting that the initiative emerged in partnership with the Catholic Church as part of the events planned for the World Day of the Poor, a celebration marked on the calendar on November 19th and established by Pope Francis in 2016.

The artist’s fans reached their goal, so the art director from Santa Catarina, Gabriel Dadamwho besides being an artist, is a big fan of Taylorwas chosen to create the image that was projected onto Christ the Redeemer.

What was the creation process like?

As revealed by Dadam In an interview with Rolling Stone Brasil, the idea of the t-shirt designed by fans as the ideal projection over the monument underwent some changes so as not to violate the copyright involved in the singer’s productions.

Each one added their little piece until we had something cohesive,” the artist began explaining. “Firstly, the idea of replicating the original ‘You Belong With Me’ t-shirt came up, but some adjustments were needed due to copyright issues and everything came together. making the tribute projected.”

As a result, the print was assembled with several elements that aim to show the unity of Brazilian fans and allude to some of the singer’s main works.

In addition to the fan project, we also developed material as an introduction, bringing all the colors of Taylor’s eras, references to songs like “Welcome to New York,” “…Ready For It?” and “Long Live,” he continued. “We also show the union of all of Brazil in one monument. We are known for being a noisy crowd and every artist needs to be prepared to meet us.

In the same chat, the art director reflected on the Brazilian fans’ initiative: “Brazil has always been clamoring for her show, I think because the wait is so long and it’s our turn to arrive exactly on the tour that encompasses all the eras that the artist has already passed, is that it brought the love for the artist so intensely to the point of projecting a welcome in one of the seven wonders of the world and also a national icon abroad”.

It is worth remembering that in addition to Rio, Taylor will also be in São Paulo, with three more performances scheduled to take place at Allianz Parque, on the 24th, 25th and 26th of November. All shows will be opened by the singer Sabrina Carpenter.
