Who gave BTS’s Jungkook the nickname Golden Maknae? Idol reveals

In the k-pop universe, when we refer to the youngest members of the group, the Korean tense “maknae” is always used, a word that, in Portuguese, exactly means youngest. Among some famous maknaes, we have Lisaby BLACKPINK, INby Stray Kids, Sehunfrom EXO, EunchaeLE SSERAFIM, and much more.

In addition to receiving the title of maknae, many idols also receive nicknames involving the term, such as Tzuyufrom TWICE, who is known as “Savage Maknae”, or Jungkook, by BTS, called by fans and members as “Golden Maknae”. But, do you know how this name came about?

Leader’s nickname

During a conversation with Sugain his program “Suchwita”, Jungkook explained the origin behind the Golden Maknae nickname, which is so beloved throughout the ARMY fandom. According to him, the name came about thanks to RMleader of the group, who started calling him that due to his great skills.

In a video from the time when BTS had just debuted, in 2013, we can see BTS himself RM explaining the reason for the nickname to the youngest member. According to him, Kookie He is a very “versatile” artist, who can stand out in singing, dancing and rapping, being someone who can do everything very well.

Typically, idols who can excel in singing, dancing, rapping, or other means are known as “all-rounders”. On video, RM comes to refer to Jungkook with the term, however, after the friend becomes shy at being called that way, the leader decides to call him Golden Maknae.
