The Nobel Peace Medal contains figures of three men on the reverse. It bears the inscription Pro pace et fraternitate gentium (For peace and brotherhood).
The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced the Nobel Peace Prize laureate for 2023 in Oslo. The award went to Iranian human rights activist and journalist Nargiz Mohammadi. It was reported by press service Nobel Foundation.
Mohammadi was awarded the prize with the words “for his struggle against the oppression of women in Iran and for promoting human rights and freedom for all.”
Mohammadi is also the vice president of the Defenders of Human Rights Center (DHRC). It is chaired by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Shirin Ebadi.
In May 2016, he was sentenced in Tehran to 16 years for creating and leading a “human rights movement that advocates the abolition of the death penalty.”
And in 2022, the BBC included her in its list of 100 women from around the world who inspire and influence the world.
This year’s Nobel Prize includes a cash prize of 11 million Swedish kronor (about $1 million), a diploma and a gold medal.
By the way, the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Belarusian human rights activist Ales Byalatsky, the Russian group Memorial and the Ukrainian organization Center for Civil Liberties. At the time, it was seen as a sharp rebuke to the authoritarian rule of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
