“Ms. Marvel” debuts exclusively on Disney+ next Wednesday, 8
The new Disney+ series “Ms. Marvel” premieres next Wednesday, the 8th, and will tell the story of Kamala Khan, the first Muslim heroine of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, played by the actress Iman Vellani.
Created in 2014 by Marvel Comics, there are still many newbie fans who still don’t know much about the iconic Ms. Marvel. Therefore, Recreio separated 5 facts about Kamala Khan that you need to know before watching the new series. Check out!
1. Origins
Daughter of Yusuf Khan and Muneeba Khan, Kamala was born in Karachi, Pakistan, but ended up moving with her family to New Jersey, United States, where her entire story takes place.
2. Marvel’s First Muslim Heroine
Within Marvel, Kamala was the first Muslim character to be the protagonist of her own comic book. Although her religion is an important part of her personality, her creators Sana Amnat and G. Willow Wilson have already emphasized that fact is not the main focus of their comics.
3. Fangirl
Being people like us, Khan is also a huge fan and fanfic writer. Right in her first HQ, we already found out that she is the author of a fanfic about the Avengers when her mother interrupts her creation so she can go to dinner. Also, on the day she meets Wolverine in person, after her fangirl moment, Kamala makes sure to tell the hero that her fanfic about him and Storm is a hit.
4. Captain Marvel fan
Despite being in love with all heroes, there is one in particular that occupies the most space in Kamala’s heart: Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel. The name “Ms. Marvel” was inspired by her and eventually they meet and Danvers becomes a mentor to the young heroine.
5. Founder of Champions
After becoming disillusioned with the Avengers after Civil War and leaving the team, Ms. Marvel founds alongside Nova and Miles Morales a new group of heroes: the Champions, a team dedicated to righting the wrongs committed by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
