How did World RBD Day come about?

October 4th was chosen as World RBD Day by the fans themselves, to honor and celebrate all the achievements of the group formed by Anahi, Dulce Maria, Maite Perroni, Alfonso Herrera, Christian Chavez It is Christopher von Uckermann.

The date, however, was not chosen randomly. This is because on October 4, 2004, the premiere of the soap opera “Rebelde”, produced by Televisa, and responsible for forming the band, took place. The plot followed the story of six students from an elite school, who, despite being very different, came together because of their love for music.

Since the beginning of production, the team already had the idea of ​​releasing an album by the group formed in fiction. However, the success of “Rebelde” and RBD ended up being even greater than anyone could imagine. Until the announcement of the group’s end in 2008, five albums had been recorded, in addition to several tours that drew a crowd of fans.

As revealed by Alfonso “Poncho” HerreraMiguel from the soap opera, the group ended its activities due to the end of the contract, and an agreement made between the members: “If one left, the group ends, and this was respected, fortunately”, declared the actor in an interview with En La Luna Con Jesús Guzmán.

“The contract ended in 2008 and we had to decide whether to continue or not. I wanted to continue with other things, I wanted to act, which is what I like. When I presented my point in front of the Televisa executives, Pedro Damián and my group colleagues, it was like: cri cri cri. The project is not Mexican: it was purchased from Argentina. If it were to continue, they would have to buy the rights again. And I decided: ‘no thanks’.”

This year, in an interview with the newspaper El País do México (via POPline), Poncho revealed some serious problems that existed in RBD’s contracts at the time, claiming that members did not see “a single cent” from the merchandising.

“We signed a contract in which we ceded the rights to the characters, their images and, of everything that was explored in terms of merchandising, we didn’t see a single cent. I was 23 or 24 years old and I saw my colleagues’ faces and my face everywhere — selling cookies, gum, juices, notebooks, sneakers, pencils and nothing. The broadcaster was not fair and it is not a question of money. I say again, this has to do with a work issue! For example, in the show we did at the Los Angeles Coliseum, for 63 thousand people, they paid 18 thousand pesos for it [aproximadamente 5.100 reais]”.

The return of RBD

At the beginning of this year, Anahi, Dulce Maria, Maite Perroni, Christian Chavez It is Christopher von Uckermann announced the group’s return for a reunion tour, called “Soy Rebelde Tour”, which has nine shows scheduled in Brazil: November 10th and 11th in Rio de Janeiro, and 12th, 13th, 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th in São Paul. All performances are already sold out. Ponchohowever, decided not to participate in the new project, as he wants to dedicate himself to his acting career.

Still in a statement to El País, Alfonso says he is “very happy with the projects I have at the moment, which is where I am putting my energy. I know this project [os novos shows do RBD] It will be a huge success and I have nothing but good wishes for them. A magazine reported that I had asked for an exorbitant sum to participate in the reunion and what I say is that they better pay my companions for all the mess they got themselves into for so many years. It has nothing to do with money, it has to do with what is fair.”

At the beginning of September, just before the debut of the new tour in the United States, Herrera was asked by a Televisa reporter about the beginning of the shows while participating in a cinema event, also in the United States, where the star declared that he was proud of his former bandmates.

“It is a tremendous success and will continue to be a success and it makes me very happy because it is something that fulfills them [os 5 integrantes] and that makes so many people happy, not only in Mexico, but also in the USA, Brazil and South America. So, it gives me a lot of happiness and pride to say that they are doing so well.”

It is worth remembering that, despite Poncho Not participating in RBD’s projects, the actor revealed a few years ago that, regardless of his decision, all members always supported his decisions.

In 2020, during an interview with the television channel Imagen Televisión, Alfonso said: “They support me. They will always support me. They have always supported me unconditionally in all my projects and, in the same way, I will always be here supporting them.”
