One Piece creator made demands for the live-action

Find out what One Piece creator’s requirements were for Netflix’s live-action adaptation

The long-awaited live-action ‘One Piece’ premieres on Netflix on August 31, and will be inspired by the universe created by Eiichiro Odawhich conquered fans both in its manga and anime versions, in which it has more than 1000 episodes.

The production will star Inãki Godoywho will play the protagonist Monkey D. Luffy, in addition to the cast also having the participation of mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero Gibson It is Taz Skylar, who will live, respectively, Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Sanji, Luffy’s crew. Remember the trailer!

However, it wasn’t easy for streaming to produce the live-action of one of the most famous anime in the world – even with the seal of approval from the creator of “One Piece”. That’s because, according Matt Owensproduction showrunner (via Omelette), oda had two requirements for the adaptation of his story with real actors to actually happen, where he proved to be adamant on two points: the pasts of the main quintet and their powers.

The Straw Hats’ backstory is so important to who they are as people, what their dreams and motivations are, and how Luffy helps them rediscover those dreams once he meets them,” Owens commented.

Even last Wednesday, the 15th, Netflix released new images from the series, showing the past of each member of the Straw Hat gang, proving that one of the demands of oda has been fulfilled. Check out!

The showrunner added:

Meanwhile, the characters’ specific powers, with their own strict rules, required a lot of imagination on Oda’s part, so of course he wanted to preserve that.”
