One of the producers of “Spider-Man Through the Spider-Verse”, Christopher Miller, has revealed the reason behind Sony’s decision
If you watched “Spider-Man Through the Spider-Verse” in theaters and noticed that the version that reached digital platforms is different, know that it wasn’t just an impression! That’s because one of the film’s producers, Christopher Millertold Total Film (via Omelete) that a “new” cut has been defined for the small screen version.
The reason behind Sony Pictures’ decision was also explained by millerwho highlighted that the changes, which range from the traits of the characters, to the removal and inclusion of lines, came to improve the plot.
There was an international version of the film that was made almost two months before the official release. It had to be translated into different languages and the French censorship classifiers had to decide what the film’s rating would be in Europe. The team of [Sony Pictures] Imageworks still had a few shots that they thought could be better for the final version. So they cleaned and adjusted those things.”
The producer also says that the retouching was carried out by several production professionals, including the sound and animation departments, who requested the changes before the film was included in the catalogs of the platforms.
Let’s make the best possible version that we can. Because it’s a multiverse movie, it’s like there’s a multiverse of the movie – that was really the reasoning behind it. We were trying to make the best possible version that everyone would be proud of.”
Furthermore, it is not just the version on digital platforms that is different. The film editor, Andrew Levitonhad already confirmed that there are at least two versions of the production that have been shown on the big screens of cinemas around the world.
Finally, it is worth remembering that on August 8 the animation reached Claro TV+, while on Amazon Prime was made available on the 10th of the same month, so fans can now follow Miles Morales meeting Gwen Stacy again and going through five different universes from the comfort of their sofas. Remember the trailer!
