Best friends in life, they are night owl lovers in Alex Lutz’s third film, which they wrote and co-produced. As obvious.
Ten years ago, Canal+ brought them together in a show The Landing. Since then, Alex Lutz and Karin Viard have never left each other. If their work allowed them to cooperate regularly, in Visitors. Revolution And Revenge with a triple run, for example, they are united above all by friendship, humor and general freedom. Brave people are born from their participation today One nightnight and romantic walk by Alex Lutz.
The actor’s friends play strangers who, after an argument in the subway, make love in the photo booth and on a windy night decide to continue talking about chemistry, misunderstandings between the sexes, the passage of time… The duo tells: us about their vision for the pair and this cinematic experience that they’d probably like to extend over the next ten years with the same characters.

Madame Figaro. – How did this project start?
Alex Lutz. – It all started with a joke. one day in the subway, I saw a woman with packages enter quickly and collided with a boy. They were constantly arguing and arguing. it was quite funny, full of charm and wit. Real movie replicas… It made me imagine this story with Karin.
Karin Viard. – He suggested I write with four hands, but Alex is so fast that he drew a script before I could even sit down at my keyboard. But he allowed me to add lines. It’s the first time I’ve been more actively involved in the writing, and there was excitement to do it with Alex.
AL: – When we met ten years ago, we immediately found each other. Especially in humor. laughing at the same things immediately told us about our common sensibilities.
kV – Very quickly there was a sincere friendship that left no room for temptation. We play together like children and we also approach the profession of an actor from this point of view. it’s a way for us to keep a part of our childhood…
AL: – We are similar. For example, we can be very boring, but as we get to know each other, we make fun of our little flaws.
kV – As soon as one of us energizes the plate, the other discharges, making it very fluid.
We play together like children and approach acting from that perspective.

Why did you choose to tell a love story instead of a friendship?
AL: – Because I am a big romantic. I don’t accept the cynicism that consists in the fact that love is bitter, no longer interesting, no longer exists… I, however, wanted to show that the love story is damaged, preserved and needs to be renewed in order to continue. :
kV – If love is fascinating to tell, it is due to the fact that it is conflictual, painful, full of challenges. We may suffer from a friendly separation, but in a less visceral way. In a love story, two days without talking is a century.
I’m a big romantic! I do not accept the cynicism of saying that love is cruel
Alex Lutz
What do you think love should be built on?
AL: – About absence. Love is someone who loves you without really knowing why.
kV – For me, love is the ability to connect with another, it is also allowing oneself to be unique. You don’t have to share the same room or the same house… That said, refusing orders doesn’t mean you shouldn’t learn or listen. For example, I had to think more about how I expressed myself in order to be heard in my relationships. My great sincerity is such that it sometimes flirts with cruelty…
“Being two is not an easy task”
What did you want to say about this movie couple?
kV – I wanted to ask myself how men and women are opposed. is there a real reason? Does our gender identity mean we see things differently? I ended a very long story, I recently remarried and the couple will ask me for the rest of their lives. Being both is not an easy task…
AL: – Me, what I also wanted to show is how couples get to know each other, find each other all the time. With the question that arises. do we really know the person we live with?
kV – I don’t think so, because you don’t really know yourself.
AL: – In a couple, we very quickly distribute the cards that each of us has a role to play… To keep the fire going, sometimes it’s interesting to wipe the slate clean, to bring back feelings and original desires.
kV – The context is also important. My girls grew up, were born from the first story, and today I discover love without children. The family does not come to disturb the couple, to change their features. It’s very different.
The couple will question me for the rest of my life. Being both is not an easy task…

“Courage is having morality.” That’s a quote from the movie. Does it match your character?
kV – That’s a phrase my teacher said during the attacks. He hit me so hard that I took it myself.
AL: – To be honest, I have a tendency to whine. I don’t consider myself very brave…
kV – But you are joking. You certainly won’t argue with your matchstick figure, but boldness is another form of boldness. And I, without modesty, think that I am very brave. I encounter things like my mother, whose strength amazes me every day despite her very fragile health. I have the same character.
Alex Lutz, your character escapes archetypes. Do you need to change your male appearance?
AL: – I’m no more interested in writing a man made of bricks than I am in telling the story of an eternally fragile and deceived woman who ends in forgiveness.
kV – We gave our characters freedom, character and questions that are our own. Furthermore, the male archetypes we imagine in our society represent a minority in my reality.
AL: – But they are probably the loudest minority because their position is the most convenient in this standardized world. That said, when I see my 16-year-old, or Karin’s daughters, rooted in their time in all its nuances, I get the impression that everything is moving in the right direction.
