Films From where and 20 days in Mariupol received awards from the British Documentary Film Festival.

The documentary film Where to Where directed by Maczek Hamel, who has been involved in the evacuation of Ukrainians since the early days of the Russian invasion, received the main award at the Sheffield DocFest 2023 festival in the UK. This was reported on the film festival website.

“Created with close and delicate respect, we, the members of the jury, were struck by the brilliant simplicity of this film, which makes us companions in a global odyssey of survival and escape,” the jury members explained their choice.

The film tells the stories of passengers on an evacuation bus forced to leave their homes due to a full-scale Russian invasion.

Also at Sheffield DocFest 2023, Mstislav Chernov’s film 20 Days in Mariupol was celebrated – it received a special award from British-American photojournalist Tim Hetherington.

“The 2023 Tim Hetherington Award winner is a film of remarkable courage and moral clarity, giving poignant context to familiar images in a way that only full-length documentaries can,” said the jury.

The documentary tells about the siege of Mariupol in 2022. When a massive Russian invasion begins, a group of journalists trapped in the besieged city try to continue their work, documenting the tragedies of war.

Earlier it was reported that the cartoon Mavka. Lisova’s song broke another box office record.
